Interior Modifications
#1

So...

I decided I'm keeping my car for a very long time. As it is my daily driver(nearly an hour a day) you start to realize some things that are wrong with the interior and how you can change them. As being my daily driver, interior at the moment is more important that engine(I don't do events or race). Most of you are familiar with jageng.com either buying some of their products of at least seeing their website. I really want to have the leather wrapped dashboard and center console. Has anyone done this and have any advice? I really think those two things alone could really transform the car into a much much nicer car. There's not many cars that have that option(most cost about 50k+).

Thoughts? Not worth the time/money? Great idea but no one has done it? I'm concerned about how hard it will be to do.

There's the link for pictures and more information.

I actually also plan on getting some aluminum knobs from them, new dash trim kit, clock, maybe gauge bezel rings in matte black, so practically all of it. So comments on the company itself and other products are also welcome.

Thanks!

I tried using the search and didn't come up with anything.

That looks very nice, and it isn't outrageously expensive, although I have no personal experience with the company. I remember seeing years ago a company that was offereing a replacement dash, with some very rich-looking stitching, but I haven't heard about them in years, so I'm not sure if they're still around.

A replacement dash would obviously be the easiest but probably not cheap. I'm assuming with at this price there is a lot of fitting and installing myself. Which might be a problem for my handiness. I know at a certain price you get what you pay for. I definitely don't want something cheap looking.

Anyone done this or something similar?

My rings for the cluster are on their way to Sweden via mail and maybe they'll give a hint or two about the general quality level.

You may also want to look at Classic 9 Leather shop http://www.928leathe...nel_Covers.html for dash and console covers.

Oddly, for the dashboard at least it is the exact same pictures as jageng.com. Same price to. Any experience with this company? I'm assuming it's the exact same product. I guess it would make sense to buy all from jager engineering since i'm getting other products from them anyways.

firefish- please let me know what you think as that is one of the products I am looking at getting. What color did you get the rings?

I think that is the 928 Leather Shop one, just being sold through Jager. I have heard a lot of good reviews on 928 Leather (Classis 9 Leather shop). To install you take out the dash, cover it with a provided foam sheet, then install the leather cover. If you have to time and patience it should come out good.

I have also thought about doing this. I think it will look nice. Look on the 928 Leather shop site too. You will also need to buy the lower dash piece, glove box door piece, and cassette box lid piece if you want the whole thing in leather. So it will add up. Otherwise will look sweet.

Ahh... Thanks for the clarification aslet. Adds up a bit more but it should come out pretty well. I just looked at the DIY for the dash removal. Even though people have said it's not as daunting as it looks, it seems pretty intense. I'm going to see how much it will cost for a shop to do it and gauge how much my time is worth.

A leather interior will look great. Go for it! There is a DIYs here on dash removal. Not for the faint of heart.

I've been having a tough time deciding whether to do a leather wrap on my dash or replace it with a dash in better condition. I haven't seen any pictures of the 928 Leather dash cover other than the one on their website. Does anyone have any?

i go back and forth on this - leather looks great - leather sucks to maintain - leather looks great - leather sucks to maintain

i still can't decide about whether or not i want to do it - i have a cab, so it really adds a lot of maintenance work

Stephen - I replaced the dash in my 944 S2 with no prior Porsche experience, just 40 years of general car mechanics stuff. No biggee with the DIY. Keep lots of bags for screws, label each one. Hardest part was tripping the airbag light and taking a year to build the board to reset it <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

http://www.designpaulchampagne.com/PorscheOrder.html here seems to be some nice solutions but I am not sure if he does anything for 968.

Marazas- that dash looks fantastic. I would pay that much for that. I would have to see if he could do something for the 968.

I really feel that this is what is stopping the car from being in the "luxury sports car" class. Of course some may or may not be going for that. I don't track it so I feel that this would be me. Thinking about maintenance now has me worried. The interior of the coupe stays pretty clean. At least clean enough between the two week clean. If you are already cleaning the seats, why not just add the dash? Luckily its not a particularly large dash.

If I get it done I'll stop by and show you flash.

Now that guy is the BOMB. Talk about quality work.... I would love to turn him loose on my car. Unfortunately, I need a place to live and the cars too small.

If you go to his site, he has done a really trick version of the console cover and added a drink holder. I sent him an Email to see if he could do something really trick like that for the 968. He's in Corpus Christi, Tx. 928 guys on RL can't say enough good about him.
