Ignition maintainance report
#1

I got to work on my car a good but this weekend. The car has new iridium plugs, performance wire from paragon, a msd blaster coil, and a new distrubutor and rotor. I forgot to mark the rotor which was stoopid but my friend got It right on our first try. I don't think we messed up the timing to much, it ran great on the first start.

The car drives way better than when I bought it. There is more power and it revs much more smoothly than before. I reccomend anyone with older parts to update your car, there is definitley power to be regained.

Now im ready for my chip, Im waiting to see if flash has any updates for us....

Happy driving all..

My car is jealous! Do you think the iridium plugs really make much difference? I know that good wires are noticable when the old ones are bad.

Hey Harvey,

we actually did everything one at a time and started it up each time, the plugs and coil made the biggest difference, the wires seemed to make a small difference. I didn't really notice the distributor/rotor, although the old ones were visbily worn.

I also noticed a big improvement with new plugs, wires, cap, rotor and coil on my 63K mile 968.

I used the Bosch parts for all except I opted for the performance 8mm plug wires from Paragon.

Well im in the process of changing this stuff as well, and for me the NGK Irridium plugs made the diference from the W7DTC,Ive changed Cap and Rotor, plus Plugs, im waiting on the plug wires, but the idle is smoother and the car more responsive, although the plugs and cap &rotor were a bit worn. I dont get what you mean by not marking the rotor arm??? cus i dindt mark it as well , since it has 3 points of assembly(screws) you cant get wrong can you?!

FYI, if the car drives, you got it right. The distributor rotor has to be put back relative to TDC, or the car won't start.

I'm supressed that a coil change would make that big of a difference. I was always under the impression that your either worked or didn't, not a gradual drop in performance. I guess the materials can gradually break down.

anyway, I just replaced my counter balance belt and noticed I had leaky power steering hoses. So I think I am going to replace them and get new plugs, wires, etc. as well.
