I need a new glove box cover
#1

Hi Guys,

I am looking for a new glove box/cubby hole lid. The previous owner did a bad job of fixing the cover and a screw is sticking through the lid. If I remove the screw the lid does not work properly and there is a tiny hole in the it. I could proably fix the hole, but idealy I would like to buy a new /used midnightblue lid. Does anybody here know where I can find one?

Thanks,
Johann

I was going to check back in my records to see where I got mine, but then I noticed that you need midnight blue. I'm 99% sure that my source only had black and cashmere. I'll check anyway, but I think you have a challenge in front of you. Would you consider buying a well-made black cover (it's really more than just the cover, it's the "hinge" and the plastic bottom) and having it dyed or recovered to get the blue you need?

Thanks Anchorman, I am starting to regret the fact that my car has a midnight blue interior. A lot of the parts are already NLA

I have found a source for spray cans with Porsche Midnight blue. So in theory I can spray any cover to match my interior. But First prize would be an original cover.

Take a look at the posting in the classified parts for sale by LINK517. I think he's selling what you want!

Unfortunately that's not the part I am after, that is the lid that goes behind the gear level on the cassette holder . I had a look on Pelican Parts this weekend and interrestingly they do not list it as NLA, but they do want $390 for it. So the hunt for a used one is still on.

Johan, did you consider recovering your lid with new vinyl or leather? Glove box lid has a simple shape so it should not be difficult. This shop can send you the right material http://928leathershop.com/Dashboard,_Conso...nel_Covers.html and you can choose between vinyl and leather. Also some local upholstery shop can recover it for you if you dont want to do it by yourself.

Ah, I misunderstood what you were looking for. I'd also look into recovering the existing part - and I'd purchase the part that's being sold, as you're likely to need it some day.

Thanks for all the advice.

My car does not have the cassette holder. I don't know if it was a European thing, but I have the same bin as the Club sport. It might have been done by the PO, but it is an interior upgrade that only costs around 20-30 euro and is well worth the money.

I'll suggest the alternative. Having the padded cover makes for a very comfortable resting place for your right arm. It also gives a covered storage compartment where things don't slide around (or out!). I think most folks have removed the cassette holding tabs so that the covered compartment becomes completely usable. I've run my iPod cable from the head unit into that compartment and that's where my iPod resides. In that way, it's totally hidden but easily removed when I want to use it or load additional stuff.

Cool, I never thought of it that way! I like the iPod idea...

Arm rest is a good thing. I agree, plus where can cab owners put their top handles and coupe owners put their tic tacks?

That's what I had directed Johann to, when I thought that was what he was seeking. Turns out he's seeking the cover to the "real" glove box - the "cubby" in front of the passenger seat. Then I suggested he get this one anyway, as the covered center cubby is much more usable. (As a side note, I keep my top handles in place in the top all of the time - I don't find them to be noticeable, and they don't take up the valuable space in the center compartment.)

My PO offered to buy a new center cover when we closed the deal on my car 5 years ago. It was the last Classic Gray one Porsche had in Germany and he paid $600.00! I try to keep my elbow off it when I'm in the car.

my bad - oopsy - yeah - i would agree that covering it is the cost effective way to go you can cover the entire bottom of the dash in leather for less than buying a new cover alone - the last time i checked it was $900 for a new cover

Yeah, I think I will just live with the hole for now, and recover the dash in leather once it starts cracking. A breaker has mailed me back saying he has a blue lid, but there were so many variations of blue with the 944/968 series that I am not very hopeful. I am going to have a look this weekend.

Here's one:

You could contact them about buying the whole dash and having them just send the cover.

Looks like midnight blue to me (at least in several of the pics). I have a white 94' with midnight blue interior and I know it can be hard to tell.

Hope the helps!

PS your interior looks awesome!

Thanks Dave! I have sent them an email. It does look like midnight blue to me as well, I might as well have the whole dash shipped out here. I will just add it to my growing stash of spares
