How to remove the battery
#1

As mentioned in a post earlier this week, I’ve been having battery drain. I put it on my to do list for Sat to take the battery to Advance auto for testing. I pop the hood, grab the battery strap and give it a pull. Wait a minute, this thing is really heavy. I give it a 2nd pull but much harder yet, its only moving up about a 1/2” I take a closer look to see if there’s some type of tie down on the battery. Nope didn’t see anything. Now, I’m starting to doubt my masculinity. I give it a good hard tug with all I got and notice the car lifting off its struts. OK, theres gotta be a tie down. But where? I go to good ol’ 968 forum and do a search. Nothing. I start to pose the question to you guys, then I thought, No! how hard can it be to find a tie down in a 12"X8" space? Well with poor lighting its pretty hard to find. So for the next Newbie I’m listing the following. (Someone at some point in time will thank me).

How to remove your battery in 3 easy steps.

1. Working from the battery side of the car, reach across the battery and feel around at the base. There you will find the allusive tie down bolt. using a 14mm socket with extension. Remove the nut.

2. Theres a small clamp that nut was holding in place. Lift that off to free the battery.

3. You may now remove your battery (assuming you disconnected the positive and negative cables)

Hard to believe how many leaves get under your hood.

I believe that those are the "pollen" filters.

I found that ACE had a green filter for a lawnmower that was the right size in one dimension and larger in the other. A bit of trimming and fitting got it done. I believe that some cars have one and some have two filters, one on each side. I do not know if it makes a difference, especially ion a cab, but whenever I find something old that I can replace/upgrade I go for it.

I intend on replacing mine as well. And yes, theres one on each side. i vacuumed it and then used compressed air to try and clean it but it's just too old. I will try the lawnmower filter you spoke of. With the original as my guide, I'm sure a xacto blade can make it fit.
