How not to start a race...
#1

So this past weekend was wet and dreary in Seattle (surprise!). But, that doesn't stop the racing. I had a wedding to attend so I ended up missing the Saturday qualifying sessions which were dry. As a result, I was much further down the pack than usual. I took an interesting line thru the first corner . Not quite like I planned it.

Group 4 Race Start

There ended up being a lot of carnage Sunday. I counted at least 10 cars heavily damaged and several of them were not going to be fixable. One person did go to the hospital but they were okay. Racing in the rain is no picnic.

@Eric

thanks for sharing... Racing can be fun, but that much rain really ups the difficulty. I'd bet tire selection is more criticle and [from the vid] can understand why most racers use a bright tape marker at the top of the steering wheel...

That had to play with your mind for the next few laps

Nice spin Glad to hear you weren't one of the damaged ones! (you or your car)

Between that and a guy being cut out of his car in the previous race I decided it was a good time not to push it too hard.

Good Driving.

That's exactly what happed to me in the rain, except that I was on some nasty Kumho's on the 110N to 10E interchange (90 deg bend) in Downtown LA. The rear just wouldn't regrip. Luckily very little happened, just a scraped rear bumper that had to be reshot.

Nice recovery, Eric!

Quick pass as soon as you got back into it, also...I don't think it upset Eric too much.

Nice smooth spin! You look pretty well composed in the video. Cool head, back pointed north, onto the gas again... Yeeehaaaa!

Eric:

Good recovery. What happened? It doesn't look like anything really happened except the rear came around.

Rain. I think that's what happened.

Wet tracks are flat out spooky. I must admit that I do not embrace them like some of the other folks that just seem to shine. Must need to work on my car control more...

It was just a simple case of 'losing it' on a wet track. I was taking a tighter line than usual so I think I pinched it in a little too much. The backend sure came around quick. It was almost like there was some oil or something on the track. Nobody else had a problem so I don't think that was it. Maybe I had too much power.
