I would guess well under 1,000 in NA. Rap's right, Jeff may have the best info.

As many rear end clips from these as I see on eBay, I am guessing the numbers have to be getting small.

i am sure they are decreasing, but i am pretty sure i can list nearly 1000 cars on the road in NA right now, and as much as i'd like to think everybody is here on this site, i'm quite sure we don't know all of them, since we get about 10 new owners registering every month.

Luckily I can name about 5 within a 5 mile radius including a black cab 3 blocks away. I'm guessing the number still on the road is about 2,000 to 2,500.

That is a question I am often asked and if I had the time I would do the work to find out but for now, it is a future project. Total North American production was 4,242 coupes and cabs. I would guess around 2,500. I know a bunch that have been wrecked/parted but not all.

Rap, I have almost 300 in the PCA 968 registry. We also have "spotted" cars in the database at almost 2000.

For example, I saw one at a repair shop near my house. I did not get to meet the owner, but I took down the VIN and (privately) and sent it to Jeff.

Jeff,

Do you have my parts car in your master list? You have VINs of cars that have been RIP'd correct?

Concerning robadams56’s comment about knowing the location of 5 968s in a 5 mile radius is a pretty foreign concept to me; I’ve only seen four in person in my life. Two of which have been in my family, the third being one I helped a friend pick up out of state, and the fourth I saw going the other way on the interstate about a year ago (I almost broke my neck doing a double take at 65MPH <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />).

i have at least 20 that i know of within a 25 mile radius, and i keep finding more. if i had to guess, i'd say that there are at least 100 within a 50 mile radius

Bob do I recall some talk af a map being done of 968's in the US? 986boxster do you think the paucity of 968 sightings may have anything to do with your locale? Lol try going to one of te 968 gatherings. There a blast and you get to see more than 4!

As Jay said but mostly eBay, autotrader, ect. And I've been watching VINs since 2000. Darryl, yes, I have your 968s, even the dead one.

Rap the number of 968s that I have seen does have a lot to do with my location (Middle of Iowa). I see another Porsche on the roads about once every other week; most of which are Cayennes. I thought I was heaven when I went to Pompano Beach, FL back in 2004 to purchase our 1st 968 with all of the Porsches around. Of the seven Porsche I've owned I only purchased one in the state and have never been able to sell them locally, with the exception of trading my 1st Porsche (the '98 Boxster: hence my user name).
