How do you use your sunroof?
#1

I think this is a poll question, hope it works. The sunroof is an excellent feature of the couple, just wondering how everyone uses it.

I have always felt that sunroofs are a joke. I hate sun shining on the top of my head, and behind my sun glasses. And why would you cut a hole in a perfectly good roof?! So many things can go wrong, and for what? A little air or light? Roll down your window, or turn on your dash vent, or buy a cab or a Ducati. You lose structural integrity, they leak, they rattle, they increase wind noise, they reduce head room, they get stuck open or closed...or stuck half way open, gears break, relays break, seals dry out, drain tubes get plugged, switches break, they get out of alignment, and the list goes on. I have a 2007 Mercedes with 110,000 miles on it, and the only problem I have had with it so far is the damned sunroof, and I almost never use it. It got stuck open twice and I had to fiddle with it to get it to close. Now it stays closed all of the time. I miss the days when sunroofs were not an expected "option".

My sunroof works fine but I rarely use it. From my driving position, I don't even notice it's open so what's the point? I'd rather just have a hardtop unless someone comes up with a retrofit kit to make a sunroof as reliable as my Civic's, but I'm sure that isn't happening anytime soon.

I think tne " lift up" feature is completely useless . A fully retractible ( similar to the MBZ sunroofs ) design would have been ideal, IMO, but short of that , they should have just left it as an all-manual removable roof. I may have taken it off only four or five times in the eleven years I've had the car. I like my cabin temps to be as close to freezing <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />- , at all times, so removing the roof defeats that goal .

I use my sunroof, both the tilt option to cool the cabin while parked or when driving, I also remove the roof when the weather is nice.

Since the car is more or less a trackday car, I would prefer not to have a sunroof and is considering to remove it.

But while I have it I will enjoy it.

The only thing I hate about the sun-roof is the weight. That thing is heavy so it makes installation/removal a pain.

obviously i don't have a hardtop 968, but i have had many cars with sunroofs, of all different types. i can count on my hands the number of times i have ever opened them up. being a ragtop guy, you would think that i would have it open all the time, however, i don't. not sure why. the removable ones are just a pain. i hate the glass ones that have no inner cover, as the constant beating of the sun requires that i wear a hat in the car, and i hate that. the glass retracting ones, with a solid inner panel, are the only ones i like at all, but even then i rarely use them.

perhaps with the new panorama roof in the X5 i might change that. with that open, and the windows down, it's almost like going topless.

sure with they would have done a targa in the 968

Mine is a fibreglass unit whit no insulation so it´s very easy to remove and install, but I think it´s a lot mor noisy than the stock unit.

I like my sunroof - use it all the time and have never had a problem with it in the last 11 years...

pop it up when driving and when parked outside in the heat...I will take it off for drives but not always...
