If vehicular manslaughter while DUI would result in a compulsory penalty of life in prison without parole ( no jury trial, no plea bargains , no judge discretion in sentencing ) I am willing to bet not one single person would ever get in their car even after one single glass of wine. By the same token, if mere possession of gun would bring about a compulsory life sentence, and/or the commission of a crime with a gun would result in an arbitrary capital punishment sentence to be carried out within a week ( again, no jury, no plea bargains, no appeals, , no b.s. ..) I would also bet that 99% of would be "criminals" will be standing in line to turn in their weapons. Again, an entirely unrealistic scenario but since we're all talking about concepts here anyway, there's one...

You know what Dan? If you changed the phrase about possession of a gun bringing about a compulsory life sentence, you wouldhave my endorsement. "If you are caught with a gun during the commission of a crime you get a compulsory life sentence, if you use it, instant death penalty (trail and one appeal)."

I don't know where you all live BUT. Down here in Georgia our County Roads are kept policed of trash, the grass is cut and trimmed, water lines are run for the shrubs in the road mediums. I used to take cold cokes out to the guys cutting the weeds in the ditches along side my property Horse fence line. The guards allowed it and the prisoners ate it up. I had the best kept up ditches anywhere. Bring back the Chain Gang in every State, and just maybe people would think twice about robbing and stealing from others. We see the prisoners working in the broiling sun down here. Our property taxes are at work keeping our areas clean and the thugs off our streets. The drunk driver never ever thinks what could happen if they cause an accident or killed someone. Heck, they are too drunk to think straight. Have any of you ever been in that condition?? I confess!! I have been there many times when I was much younger and dumber. I was never caught by the police, so I have never had a DUI. It seemed as if I led a charmed life and in some ways still do. Many Countries still to this day go by "An Eye For An Eye" justice, some still cut off a hand, or stone you to death. Justice should be dealt with swiftly, not let the offender set around for 6 mo. to a year. How much is spent on housing and feeding a prisoner? I lived in Europe and England among everyday people for years. I was treated with out pouring friendliness, respect and dignity. Saying that, I am so glad my forefathers left and came to America so I could be an American Citizen.
