Hot Engine Downunder
#1

Hi,

I have read most of the posts on engines overheating, but I think I have a new problem.

I live in Australia and today at our sprint it was around 38 celcius. When it is hot and you are running a high throttle percentage - track day - the car overheats to the point where the warning light comes on. By backing off (and even short shifting), the engine returns to normal operating temps fairly quickly. This only happens in Summer - not in Winter.

We ran the car with the A/C on to make sure both fans are working (it is not a CS), with no visible difference (got the same result) and both fans were working.

Is there a bigger radiator and oil cooler option out there that might go towards solving the problem.

Belts and pump changed around 2.5 years ago with no problems - head gasket changed just prior to my purchase of the car - 3.5 years ago.

I have had the radiator out of the car and cleaned - it was around 15% blocked, but this has not made a difference. Engine runs a coolant mix and there is no visible discolouration. Car still makes good HP (was around 0.9 seconds of PB lap times even with the heat).

I know most people live in colder climates - but any info or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig

what thermostat are you running?

what fan temp switch?

are both fans operating at both speeds?

what chip are you running?
