Looking to ID a couple of hoses and would appreciate any help with part numbers :

 

First hose in question is a coolant hose - upper center front of motor.   Mine (shown in pic below) has been modified by adding a water temp sensor in the middle of it.    If you look carefully in pic below you can see moisture around top hose fitting as well as a small puddle of coolant directly below top yellow wire.   I'd like to replace this section of hose, will re-add the coolant temp sensor as well once it's cleaned up, but need the replacement hose :

 

     

 

Can anyone help in ID'ing which of the hoses below I'd need from the parts catalog?

 

   

 

Second hose in question is one of the hoses coming out of the brake fluid reservoir - specifically the blue frayed one shown in this pic :

 

   

 

The parts catalog shows the reservoir (section 4 in parts catalog screenshot below), but NOT the hose coming off it.    Any ideas?

You will find the blue hose in the clutch section, as thats the fluid feed for the clutch


The top hose is item 23, about $100 if I remember correctly, and I dont know why anyone would fit a temp sensor there as its the cold feed from the radiator, and you have a water temp gauge in the dash, I am sure I would not cut a brand new $100 hose and add two more places for a water leak

Hi Velocity,

 

That would be # 23 for the waterhose, although mine is different as well because parts of it is steel pipe which looks original.

 

The other part i suppose is some sort of braided fuel line which is up to breakingfluids.

It's running to your main clutch cylinder from the tank.

PET # 999 181 021 50 - hose 12.5 x 7.5 and 270mm long.


Waylander was in front i see during the proces of looking for the parts.

Hi Velocity, ditto on Waylander's comment, ......what is the benefit of this set up?  You have an extra gauge in your cockpit somewhere with extra wiring, an extra part to go wrong, and additional leak points.  I'd be inclined to "de-clutter", but I don't know your car, so if there's some benefit from the additional info then of course you want it installed reliably.

Thanks all - knew this crowd would have some quick answers!  ;-)

 

To respond to the questions around placement of the water temp sensor - the car has aftermarket gauges installed in it (see pic below - sorry about the lint/cat hair - hadn't detailed the car recently!), and I can only assume that's the sensor for the water temp.   As to why it was installed there?    It was installed well before I owned the car (two owners back), so I can't answer that - perhaps easiest location to get access to coolant?  ;-)   

 

As long as I'll be replacing that hose anyhow - can anyone recommend what they think would be a better location for an aftermarket sensor to tap into the coolant system?    While there is an OEM water temp gauge, I just like knowing my water temp is at "180F" vs "about 1/3 between the first white mark and second white mark" - so I plan to keep the gauge, but totally open to relocating the sensor location if there is a better option. 

 

   

 

I'm also working on fixing an oil leak that appears to be related to...wait for it...the aftermarket oil pressure sensor hose, but that's another story for another day...

I understand the feeling of knowing the value of the temp, but if was not there you would be none the wiser


You could buy a sensor to fit in the bleed valve hole, and it will be hidden by the fuel rail cover, much better than chopping a new hose, or see if you can make a hose up with silicone from Lindsey racing


I guess the oil temp and pressure is coming from a sandwich plate under the oil filter or the oil pressure switch has been tapped into

Hose Is 944 106 239 11 $69, from porsche

 

blue hose 999.181.021.50 $36 From Porsche, should be cut to 270mm long, At that price i would find a VW shop and buy some blue hose from them, it's the same stuff
