Dim central indicator
#1

The central warning indicator came on last night, but not full on, just about 1/2 brightness at idle. It almost goes out at 2k rpm, but is still slightly lit. The oil pressure warning light at the bottom of the op gauge does the same. Oil pressure is pegged at 5 bar.

Is there any time the central indicator is supposed to come on at less than full brightness? This sounds like an electrical problem to me but the car is parked for now just in case.

It's a '92 968, fwiw.

Possibly a poor ground... Hopefully you have a schematic to troubleshoot it.

I took the instrument cluster out last night and cleaned the tightened all the contacts. No more dim central indicator. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Just for the record, you do not need to remove the steering wheel to remove the instrument cluster. It's a tight fit but it comes out OK. It took about 1/2 hour to remove the bezel, pull the instruments, clean it all up, and put it back together.
