Hi I'm red - red2erni that is
#1

So I guess this is the "Introduction" section. The email instructions seemed to point to a 'fill out box' section, so I suppose there is one waiting somewhere. But just to prove to myself that I have permission to do something on this web site, my nature is to try an experiment, so here goes.

My name is "red", "red2erni", and I bought a new 1992 - 968 in Palo Alto California at Carlson's Porsche when they were still on Embarcadero Road. It's a midnight blue coupe. At a recent 968 rally in Paso Robles it was pointed out that MY midnight blue has some purple in it, might be an early car variation. Other than that, the car is pretty standard, really never had any problems.

I put ~2 - 4 K$ into the car every year, so it is on the fourth set of belts and fifth set of tires (Michelin's on 20"BBS wheels this year) at about 90k miles and runs great. These days I use Dave Modderman's Porsche shop in Mountain View Calif. Dave and Steve do magic, are prince-like to work with, there are great Porches to look at and you could eat off the floor if so desired. But the car has not always been garaged.

Two weeks ago I talked my wife into joining up with some northern California 968 forum members and we met up with a great group of southern California folks in and around Paso Robles a couple of weeks ago, drove down Big Sur in beautiful spring weather, talked cars, (I got lost), we all visited some wineries and had a couple of great meals together. I was actually surprised my wife really enjoyed it, particularly the people, and was fun to have her along, even though I couldn't keep up with the younger guys with their more recently purchased, messaged rides, since I had the boat anchor.

By way of introduction I told these 968 folks that I couldn't actually say what it was about 968s or 968 folks, but as soon as I could buy one in 1992, I went right down and bought one, so I guess I'm it, whatever that is. And I'm glad to introduce myself to this forum.

My background is Chemical Physics. I have worked in high temperature materials for jet engines, semiconductor and TFT-LCD manufacturing equipment, had my own company - several of these, helped start several others that are successful in energy conversion and storage devices and now consult almost full time in Photo Voltaic technology and other stuff I think is cool. I have more than 100 patents, mostly in vacuum thin film equipment, thin film materials and devices, stuff that is now called 'nano-technology'.

Let me know what more I need to do so that I can get started with this forum. I would like some help and I might be of some use in return.

Cheers,
