Hi from Vancouver, B.C.
#1

I got the email so I am posting.

I have a GP White '92 968 that I bought in Seattle coming up 2 years ago. I love the car and want to know as much as I can about it. Hence, I've been a lurker.

I'm a member of PCA Canada West Region and join in on some of their drives and have done two of their DE days at Mission Raceways, near Vancouver. I want to do some autocrossing, but haven't yet managed to do that.

Mine came with the standard 16" wheels, so I have bought a set of Cup 1 - 17" wheels but have not yet purchased tires for them.

I get my servicing done at Weissach in Vancouver, but when I blew my clutch at the last DE day, I had it towed to SCAN in North Van. Both seem really good.

I wanted to do another DE Day in June, but picked up a rock and now have a long crack in my windshield. I want to find a reasonably priced replacement now, so I want to get on the forum and see what I can find.

Welcome!!
Try the AX at least once, it is more challenging than it looks.

Thanks for the greeting.

I've done some other minor mods to my 968 which should help make it a bit more suitable for AX and DE days. I've been out to an AX day, but have had other commitments which blocked me from driving in them.

After buying a hydraulic floor jack and some jack stands, I replaced my sway bar bushings, which were damaged fro an oil leak. After getting the oil leak fixed, I installed front and back M030 sway bars and Koni yellows. Weissach installed the front Konis. I have also installed a K&W air filter and done the airbox mods.

I don't plan on buying R compound tires because I use it as my daily driver unless the temperature means there might be salt on the roads. Now I have to decide which tires to install on my 17" Cup wheels... I have Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position on them now and like them a lot. There is a smooth transition into a slide, so they are easy to control. But I'd like to learn more about the other options.

Alan

Sounds like you are on the right track.
Buying tools and doing it yourself is much
more rewarding.
Save some cash and keep the tools
for the next mod or repair.

This is great! We should be able to have a Vancouver Island/Lower Mainland 968 contingent soon with all the new BC cars showing up.

It seems like there are more 968s around Vancouver than many other places. There are 2 that I know of among the PCACWR membership. How do you get yours serviced in Campbell River?

There is a Porsche Master mechanic in our region - VIRPCA, he lives in Qualicum and a super guy.
If it's a local quick fix there is a young mechanic here in town who used to own and work on his 944

And my new tires. I finally made the decision to put new rubber on my 17" Cup 1 wheels. I've ordered a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE11s. I was going to order the much less expensive Dunlop Direzza Stars, but the wait time was 4 - 5 weeks and summer is nearing the end. Plus I want to do an auto-X and a DE day during that time, so I did a complete flip-flop and went to a tire that is more expensive than Michelin PS2s and Bridgestone RE050s, which I now have on my 16" wheels. From what I've read they should be very grippy and strong, a big improvement over my 16" setup. I should have them next week.

Hopefully they are okay in the rain too, Vancouver weather and all.

I'm interested in a 968 gathering. I live on the North Shore but work downtown. Maybe a centrally located Starbucks? I will see if Rich Sandor can join us. He knows pretty much everything about 968s.

Mine is in at Weissach today getting brake fluid replaced and a track day checkup. I'm hoping to do the PCA autocross on Sunday, then the DE day at Mission in October.

I'm jealous as I can't make quick get-togethers being stuck on the island. The price of clean air, fresh water and an 8 minute commute
