Thanks to all who helpd me out with their advice.

If that's OK, will just answer in one post, since I am not sure how to quote all the different people correctly ...

- The 968 on craigslist: was already sold whan I called in this morning. Darn! At least there no mention of any old ladies or such, not that helps me much. Even though it is too late: I tried to look up more information on the 220 limited slip but could

but couldn't find much. Is this an important thing? How much would that add to the value of the car? And BTW, thanks a lot for decoding the options on that car!

- Driving distance: the 6h45min I mentioned were one way, and my point was that in that case I would probably need to get a hotel and such, which make the logistics more complicated. Well, that is also irrelevant now....

- The red 968 on Ebay: Thanks for pointing this out and also a big thanks for the offer of checking out the car for me! I really appreciate that! I actually followed this car through its last two sale attempts. However, you hit it right on - the tiptronic is the problem, and that rules out the car. I am from Germany, and I think the first time I drove automatic transmission was when I was about 29 years old or so .... I really prefer manual and so that makes tiptronic a non-option.

So I guess the short of the story is, I am still looking. We'll see - something will come along eventually.

Thanks again,

Klaus

220 is an important option - factory Torsen or Quaife <acronym title='Limited Slip Differential'>LSD</acronym>. I wish I had that and now I have to add it with the Supercharger.

It's a very nice option to have from the factory. I think there are aftermarket <acronym title='Limited Slip Differential'>LSD</acronym>'s available too.

I've considered one of those eBay $550 jobbies. OBX I believe? Any experience, anyone?

I have seen those on mostly "Ricer" forums so I chide away. Plus the price tells me something <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

OS Giken sounds great I just worry about the tad bit of noise Flash says exists especially if you have a rear seat delete.

Let's just say that Flash I I differ in our opinion about the "noise" of the OS Giken unit. Even if there is the slightest hint of noise (and I don't concede that there is, but I don't have Flashes supersonic hearing) the performance enhancement is by far worthwhile.

Hi all,

Here is an update and a some questions, if you don't mind:

I was quite busy with my work over New Years and until now, but I noticed that the Porsche on craigslist that Blau pointed out was still listed.

And sure enough, when I called the dealer (again) two days ago, this is the story that I heard:

- They thought the car had sold, but when they got the check from the buyer, they didn't trust it so the sale didn't go through.

- There was another person looking at the car. He got a <acronym title='pre purchase inspection'>PPI</acronym> from "a few towns over" and "nothing major was found, but some loose hose". However, they could not agree on the terms (read price). The dealer may still know the name of the shop that did the <acronym title='pre purchase inspection'>PPI</acronym> and I could call (if the can find the card).

- There are no service records for the car except for a sticker from the last timing belt change (done 2005 @50k, now the cars has 82k)

- Carfax unknown

- A spot on the rear bumper was painted over with spray paint, but no dents on the car. They sales person walked to the car while we talked, he didn't seen anything else. The interior is clean.

So, what now? Or more specifically:

- Does it make sense to buy a car w/o service records?

- What is the best way to gat a report? Carfax, Autocheck, etc. ?

- Is there a place near Plaistow, NH where I can get the car checked out?

- How do I transfer the Car? Can I use the dealer plates to drive it to NY or to I have to get temp plates? The dealer didn't know.

I would just go and check the car, but it is a 6h45min drive (one way), so I will have to stay overnight and all. That is a pretty big investment of my time at this point ..... so I'd like to do all my homework beforehand.

Thanks for all the help and advice I got already!
