Potential 968 Owner; Current 911 4S Owner
#1

Hello All. Joined the forum to learn more about the 968. I live in Virginia and am considering the purchase of a 968 for the track. I would want to keep it street legal so I could drive it on the road to get to the track. Also want to teach my boys how to drive a stick and get them on the track as well. Currently own a 911 4S Cab. Looking at a 968 Coupe. This forum looks great.

You will find a lot of people here have their cars set up for exactly your purpose. There is also enough tech info here o nthe '68 to create a great track car if you use the Search function. A few more posts an all wil be at your disposal.

Welcome, while my 911 is probably 90% track setup it is now semi retired as I bought the 968 race car just for the purpose of wheel to wheel racing. The 968 is a much better balanced car than the 911.

It sounds like we have exactly the same plan - a 968 track car that's just streetable enough to drive to and from the track, as the whole trailering thing sounds like a royal pain. I'm in the process of converting mine. Best of luck with your search.

Should of included a warning, this is a slippery slope, but sure puts a smile on your face. Also its cheaper in the long run to buy a car already built for the track. As Cloud9 pointed out by the time you add other tires for the track, jack, and other tools it will not be long before you start looking at trailers, I call mine the mobile garage :-)

Owning a trailer would be awesome - that's not the problem. The problem comes in the form of the ancillary requirement to move to a piece of property large enough to keep one! And then there's the little detail of buying a vehicle to tow it with. So, all told, adding the ability to trailer a track car would only set me back, oh, I don't know, maybe as little as a half million bucks

Edit: I know this is way off topic, but pmason, how did you remove the passenger side airbag control unit from your race car? It's held in place by a couple of very weird nuts. I assume you did this while you were removing the HVAC. Thanks.

Cloud9, PMed you, but understand your problem I'm always looking for that 10 car garage with a 1 bedroom attached :-)

An extra garage wouldn't do me any good, unless it was motorized .

Another alternative would be renting a garage at the track, but they start at $520 a month, which is a luxury I just can't afford, with two kids to put through college. So, it gonna be a dual-purpose car for the foreseeable future for me.
