Help locating a bad leak

it doesn't look like it's being sprayed all over the place. it's just coming from behind the timing belt cover.

So to bring this full circle, it turns out the brand new water pump was leaking from the shaft. Luckily, the <acronym title='previous owner'>PO</acronym> who had it put in has been awesome helping me get a credit from the vendor. This was the second water pump he bought from them (one new, one reman'd) and both ended up leaking. I am in the middle of a remodel right now and had no time to work on it myself so I took it to the shop and they will have it done today. Unfortunately, while putting everything back together, they noticed the radiator had a hole in it (hit by a screw) so that had to be replaced too.



A bit more money than I was hoping to spend but hopefully that will be it...at least for a while <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Let us know. And it would also be a good data point if you could tell us the vendor that supplied both bad new and bad reman pumps.

I'm not sure how the screw got there, but what happened was one of the mounting screws (3 tabs along the top) was too long and punctured the radiator. It was fixed with epoxy and seemed to hold up fine until my tech removed it and the screw pulled the epoxy out. The tech didn't feel comfortable trying to re-epoxy it nor would I feel safe using it on a pressurized system, so a new one went in. Expensive, but peace of mind.



Paragon Products supplied 2 pumps to the <acronym title='previous owner'>PO</acronym> (1 reman, 1 new) and both failed. My tech recommended a Porsche supplied reman unit this time as he said even the new ones are failing these days. Even Porsche supplied products aren't a guarantee as the gasket they supplied with the pump was no good so he had to wait for another. about 200 miles since the "new" pump went in and no more leaks so I'm happy, albeit a little lighter in he pocketbook.

Oh, great... I've got a reman from Paragon sitting in the box, just arrived yesterday. I figured I'd try it since the new Laso failed so quickly...

yeah- those screws are a drag. i punched a hole in ds968's radiator. why they use a pointed tip screw is beyond me. i now have to include an instruction in the SC instructions to file them down blunt

Great minds think alike. My tech did the same thing once the new radiator was put in. His exact words were almost the same as yours "why would they ever put something pointy so close to the radiator?!"
