My 968 is the last car I'll drive!
#1

Hi!

My name is Pam. I'm rather new in Texas, and have found my new home here in Fort Worth.

I drive a '94 968 - black on black, 6 speed, coupe. I have had her for 10 years now and can't see myself ever driving another car. Ever. I love this car.

I got the Porsche bug from my ex, who had a 951 (944 Turbo), and probably know more about my car than your average female driver. Being new in Texas has been a challenge as I've had some disastrous experiences with mechanics. Finally found myself at Autobahn in Fort Worth and was thrilled with their work, service and prices.

Road trips are a favorite, just returned from a 1400 mile round trip and the car handled like a dream. My 968 is completely stock (except for radio) and I intend to keep it that way. Am working on getting the minor issues taken care of and keeping her in tip top shape, as I said - this is the only car I want to drive for the rest of my life. With good maintenance, I know she will fun forever.

Last night I was stuck in construction traffic when the car next to me said "I like your car". Blew me away when I looked over to see another black 968. A '94 also!! You just do not see many 968s on the road anymore, his is only the 2nd one I've seen in Texas. He referred me to this site and I hope he sees this post because I want to thank him.

So looking forward to learning more about my car and maybe getting to know some other people who are lucking enough to drive one of the most awesome cars (in my opinion) ever made.

Pam

Welcome! Awesome story! Over here in The Netherlands, the number of 968's per capita seems relatively high, but even I never met another 968 (while I was driving mine) when it wasn't planned

Welcome!

Your story sounds a little like the one I read recently, of someone that has been driving his Volvo 1800 for 2.9-million-miles!!! Now THAT is astounding!

Welcome! Even here in socal I only see maybe two 968s on the road per year - not counting special events with other 968 forum members. Rarity - it's one of the bonus perks of driving a 968!

To Austin - It's definitely a perk of driving a 968 - being so unique on the road. I like having a car no one else has. But I get annoyed when people mistake it for a 944. Then I feel it's my responsibility to educate the poor confused person. To TonD - I can't believe there are several in Holland, my good opinion of your country just went higher - just another reason to visit someday. To Jake - I would LOVE to be able to say "I have a million miles on my Porsche.". I think you just help me set a new goal!

I know of 7 other 968's in the BC region and today as I come out of the restaurant from lunch... there is Phil's 968 parked RIGHT BESIDE my DD. based on the comments in this topic of NOT seeing another 968, it was rather ironic...

Hi Pam, I am another female new member, from Brisbane Australia. Not a lot of 968's here, and I have not seen another on the road while just out and about. I do of course see a few at Porsche club outings but I think mine is a fairly unique colour for Australia (Oak Green). I agree that it is an amazing car and look forward to many years of enjoyable motoring. I get really annoyed when people mistake it for a 928 though.

Hi neighbor! I have a 94 Coupe and live in Dallas. You will learn that there are many in our area and in fact, mustanghusker lives about 3 blocks from me. We are slowly getting a directory of North Texas 968s and want to have a reunion of sorts.

I think you will have a substantial resource for information on this site including useful insight regarding local mechanic shops.

By the way, John Hamilton at Autobahn is the president of the local chapter of Porsche Club of America aka Maverick Region. You will hear varying opinions about PCA membership on this sight, but the local chapter has a lot of fund events that might be of interest. The members are all over the Metroplex so the events are geographically diverse.

Welcome again!

Good! So here's an event you should attend.....on April 28th the Maverick Region PCA in celebration of its 50th anniversary will conduct a photo shoot showing makes and models over the last 50 years. It will be held at Texas Motor Speedway ( close to you) beginning at 12pm. Admission is $5. There will be dozens of Porsches and I am wanting to get as many 968s from the area as possible. Don't know if any 968s will be in the picture itself, but there will also be a massive Porsche show in the parking lot. Fun. Hope to see you there.
