Welcome. I am from the other coast with two 968s - a white 6 speed coupe and a blue tip cab. Have fun.

Welcome!

I am just down HWY #1 in Langley!

We should meet up before my insurance runs out at the end of the month and I put the 968 away for it's winter hibernation!

(just hate the thought of several months with no fun driving...)

does taking it off the insurance for a couple of months really make that much of a difference? on my insurance, i had it figured out once, and because i lose part of the multi-car discount portion during that period, the savings was less than a good bottle of wine. maybe it's my company. maybe it's california. not sure, but it didn't work for me.

Works out for me, to the tune of a few hundred bucks, but I don't lose the multi-car or multi-line because of my other vehicles. Maybe what you consider a good bottle of wine costs that much? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

I just switched the two cars over to American Collectors and saved about 350-400. Only downside is a 5000 yearly mileage limitation. Since I haven't done that with the first one. I'm hoping to be ok dividing it between the two

We're getting OT but we don't have the luxury of multi car insurance here as it's government run.

5 months (Nov - Mar) on just "storage" insurance is about $400 savings.

I should move ahead with applying for "collectors" status since that would only be about $400 for the whole year! There is no limit to how much one can drive in a year here on "collectors" insurance, which is good, since I have averaged about 6000 miles for each of the three years I have had the car.

Ah but no to and from work, company vehicle to get you around that? Auditors call that a taxable benefit unless you go directly to a job from home. Stupid rules :-(

I don't get the multi-car thing. I don't understand why it should cost more to insure ten cars than it does one, since you can only drive one at a time. Yes, damage or theft can happen when a car is sitting at home, even in a locked garge, but I would think 95% of claims happen when cars are out being driven. Can someone with knowledge of insurance explain this to me, because it smells like a rip-off from here...

Now you're getting the idea! I Given the expected profits of our insurance company they would just double my rates if they offered to insure the driver and not their vehicles. I have always thought that the driver should be insured for the highest cost vehicle and be permitted to drive anything under that rate class.

Yup - makes perfect sense to me. I asked my insurance agent about this once, and her response was basically, "uh, hmm, uh, yeah, well, that's just the way it is..."
