Where is it leaking from?
#1

Alrighty, I finally lifted my car up to look for the coolant leak. My guess would be the waterpump, but for some reason i cant see up there to tell.( i know i've posted about this before, but my floor jack's hydraulics failed and i just bought a 2-ton aluminium racing jack with a 4-foot handle <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) When i hooked the pressure tester up it just started pouring out at a steady rate. I've also noticed a small oil leak. I have included two pictures indicating where i can see the coolant leak dripping from and where the oil leak seems to be. Any advice would help. Give me your opinions on where the coolant leak is coming from.

Coolant dripping from here:

Oil leak:

What else should i be able to remove (not the belts, yet) to see where the leak is coming from. It seems to be leaking a bit higher in that photo.

Also, no Oil in the coolant, and no coolant in the oil. Also not blowing any smoke.

Thanks,

Rene

It is kind of hard to understand the geographic area of the coolant leak. Need a wider shot, but if it is the bottom - front of the motor, it is most likely the pump. The bottom photo shows the area immediately below the pump.

Your oil leak is most likely from the upper balance shaft. You have to remove the belts, pulleys, and rear cover to get to it

Might as well get stocked up for a belt, pump and front seal job.

Sorry about that... was in a hurry. Yea it's the bottom part of the motor right under the water pump. On the front, left section of the crankcase. With the pressure tester on within 5 min it dropped 7 psi and i have at least 32 oz of coolant in a bucket.

looks to me like the water pump or its gasket failed, more then likely the pump seal went out.

Bah.. the infamous tension tool is for the weak and feint-hearted. No, i'm going to try and contact a few local PCA members that own 944s, i assume that one of them has the tension tool. Unfortunately, sunset imports is the cheapest place i could find it: 477.00 and its back ordered for a month.. i plan on purchasing it, but my parts are coming in Monday. Looks like i'm going to use mardi gras to fix my p-car. Awesome!!... ( loaded with sarcasm)
