So the car finally let me down and didn't get me home. I'm guessing it was retaliation for getting it stuck in a rain storm. I was driving home and and saw a sprinkle or two, (top was down), figured I was driving away and I wasn't it turned into a downpour. So I had to pull over and put the top up (manual mode and boot on). About 5 minutes later the warning lights comes on and the temp was pegged. I had a feeling something was going on as I saw the temp rising more then normal just prior and started smelling what I thought was coolant. So 5 minutes from home the valve is shot and all coolant is gone and it's pouring rain. Adding water results in it pouring out of the HCV. So it was towed home by AAA. Just when I had it cooling just right and all air out of the system.

Well actually where I happened to pull over there was a bar, so that wait wasn't to bad since they had Spaten on tap.

I pulled off the old one today, and below is now how they are not suppose to look. Even the rubber O-Ring inside is dried out and broken up which would explain the heat I always had in the car. I'm hoping what I'm guessng should be a door to stop the flow on the inside of this valve just fell out when I was wrestling the valve out of the car as it's not in the valve.

Looking it up under the Autozone part number didn't seem to work. If you input a 1991 Audi 100 and do a search for Heater Control Valve you will find it. It should be Autozone part number 5910

That's the same design as I got from AutoZone, expect mine is the zinc plated color. The hose connection layout makes mounting a little tricky, but it's doable. I got mine in last night and am in the bleeding stages now, probably ought to finish bleeding it in a couple weeks.
