Headlight protective film - sources?
#1

In the past others have recommended Stonegard protective film for the 968 headlights. It seems that they no longer market a "968 kit". Anyone have a source or an alternative? I have a cracked right headlight lens(and a replacement lens) but I haven't fixed it yet, waiting to install a protective film. Somehow after the trouble and expense of finding a new lens, I don't want it broken before it can get some protection.

Tried them, unfortunately:

StonGard Light, Headlamp/Foglamp Protection, 968 Ref: 064010080

StonGard Light headlamp/foglamp protection

Sorry, this item is

No Longer Available

I'll settle for just headlamp films, are any other headlights close enough for the 968s?

I'd be interested in this as well, I have a headlight lens that needs replacing and I want to use the film on it.

Perhaps its sold in sheets somewhere?

Also, where did you find your replacement lens and for how much?

Best,

It is still listed in the Griots garage catalog on page 55. It is called "headlight shield" and is available in sheets of: 11" x 17" or 22" x 17". www.griotsgarage.com or (800) 345-5789 Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Just saw them listed as "headlight savers" in the latest Panorama from Strasse (www.STRASSEUSA.com) or (877) 944-9111. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Found this one that ships worldwide, based in New Zealand.

Going to get some for my car, which now has a cracked headlight from a stone.

Aside: the lens on a headlight is cracked, can I replace just the glass....or do I need to buy another assembly with all the plastic surround etc?

Just realised my car is at the speedshop, so cant measure the size I need. Does anyone know what the dimension of the headlight is, top to bottom, right to left, including the curve of the face?

remember the bump in the light too - i tried ones for a 993 and they didn't fit at all, and they also lacked the hole for the bump

I measure 8 and 1/2 inches side to side and top to bottom. Face is flat, not curved. Bosch is on the front with the following ID: SAE-H-91LE1855L Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I am sure you can replace just the glass lens, check with Sunset Imports, they are in Oregon and do a large mail-order business due to their low prices. www.porscheparts@sunsetimports.com Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I was just at Niello yesterday looking at this. Apparently the lens and reflector are one piece, which leads me to believe the lens is not replaceable without some homespun surgery.

I believe that 3M manufactures or did manufacture the film. It would make a great group buy in bulk.

Just spotted another source for the Headlight Protective Film: Performance Products still offers it in their catalog "80 mil film, Pre-cut and self-adhesive headlight film" Go to: AUTOMOTION.COM and mention Priority code 1XX7C12 Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I just applied this product. It is not as thick as some I have seen but it was easy to work with. The sheet size 11 x 17 is large enough to cover both head lights and Fog/Driving lights (if you are careful laying it out). This stuff cuts easy with a good pair of sissors and the alignment bumps can be cut with a razor blade knife. I did have some bubbles left after application - but as noted in the instruction - they dissapeared after a few days and are totally clear.
