Anyone have a cubby subwoofer
#41

That's what I used - 3/4 top. Mind you I did it in Oak veneer, stupid habit from making furniture <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

I own a cabinet shop and have a 5'x10' cnc machine with 9" gantry clearance. I get bored and do all kinds of stuff.

Can't wait to see what you come up with wmuldowney. I always thought someone could make a near perfect insert for the cubby to maximize the enclosure volume. Sounds like you have the tools to do it!

as you found, the problem is the shape. you end up small in volume if you go wood, and you might as well go free air at that point. if you chose the right driver you would actually get a tighter bottom end than a small box with the wrong driver.

to really nail it, you would really need to do an injection type of enclosure, in place, to maximize the space. keeping the sheet metal from deforming though would be the tricky part.

Funny you should mention that Flash, back in the mid 90's I worked for Line-X in R&D, I sprayed several speaker boxes and also "cubby" spaces like we are talking about. They seemed to work out pretty good. Forgot all about that. Doing that and adding the acoustic insulation might be the trick.

I run a 8" D2 Image dynamics sub in a KLA box on the passenger side (there were pictures in a thread but they seem to be lost...I will try and repost this weekend) being pushed by its own a Hifonics 400 Watt amp and a Alpine 9887 head unit. I am very happy with the bass I can get out of it and love the system over all - best sound system I've had in a car. Oh an its a coupe.

Does anyone know how to remove the sunroof mechanism temporarily so that I can install the KLA subwoofer box?  Removing the attachment bolts is not enough - I will need to disconnect the cable to the sunroof.
