all cracked up
#1

finally started driving the car around, only to crack my windshield - timing was wonderful - 3 days before the paso robles run

i had this one installed a couple of years ago when we painted the car - not happy - for no reason it split in 4 places at the mirror button - i was fine and then i wasn't - nothing hit it - no indication of any problem - it just broke

new one in now - hope it holds

That Sucks!

How much did the new window set you back? Can any car glass shop do it, or is it a specialised job?

Yikes. Glad you were able to get it fixed quickly though. Can't see you as a right seater on the Paso run...

Is there any chance that the added rigidity of your car/suspension puts more torque on the windshield?

Interesting question, but I would think that with reduced chassis flex as result of all the added braces on Flash's car, there should be less movement around the windshield frame. Right?...

it's not the suspension by itself - i had that windshield in for MANY miles with this suspension

not sure what happened - glass guy thinks i smacked the mirror - i just changed it to the homelink and hung the radar detector off of it - it is possible that the button was too small for the shock load of the suspension - also it was making contact with the fastrack - not sure what caused it

new button is twice as big - reoriented load of mirror and detector - we'll see

Bummer.

I'm on my third windshield in a little more than five years ( last one cost about $ 500 IIRC,
but I think the coupe windows are a bit cheaper than cabs ) although all mine were road pebble or other
debris-induced cracks. Friggin' trucks throwing these mini missles at me

So I dropped my insurance policy's comprehensive deductible to just $ 50 solely for that reason - windshields risk.
Costs me an extra $ 40/year in premium but at the rate mine break, I'll always be ahead of the game I figure
