A couple of weeks ago I got my daily call from Flash and it turned out that we both were thinking the same thing. It has been a year since Bob, Pete and I took the reins of 968Forums from Eric Sandoval. Since the world didn't "know" until January 16, 2008 we thought that this is the most appropriate date for our anniversary greeting. What a first year it has been!
This site is, and remains, all about YOU. When we first got involved, we knew that the site needs very little moderation, and despite strongly held opinions, it is a real pleasure to be a moderator on a site that hardly needs moderation.
In a few instances where Bob, Pete and I felt it was important to take a position we have been able to discuss each of our opinions and have come to agreement as partners to issue a statement. There have been a few unfortunate circumstances that have come up this year, and I hope that you will agree that we have dealt with them head-on, without infringing on anyone's right to speak their minds, if it took us a few days to conform our thoughts and message, we appreciate your forebearance..
A few words about my partners; it is obvious to all who visit here that Bob has made tremendous strides to organize and upgrade the information on this site. Yes, there have been some growing pains in trying to find old threads and using the search engine, but no one likes change and we hope that the vast majority of major changes are behind us. We have taken a very long-term view of the contents on this site, and hope that this information will be a legacy of our stewardship of these fine automobiles. 968Forums has become the standard-bearer for the 968 community and we hold that responsibility with the highest respect.
Pete and I have remained active and speak with Bob almost every day. Just as we stepped up to the plate here, my responsibilities at work grew at the same time. Seems the adage that "responsibility flows to those that accept it" is particularly true at this time in my life. I hoped to attend or sponsor a few fun runs and instead struggled to find time to get the car out of the garage (except to take it to RS Barn for much needed "Standard Maintenance"). I was able to attend a fun run in the Chesapeake region and am happy to report that out of approximately 100 Porsches, I was the sole 968, and I left an indelible mark in the minds of those I passed. Bob, Pete and I all managed to spend time with you at Hershey and look forward to Hershey in April 2009. I was happy to be able to meet up with a few friends in July at the Jersey Shore and I was reminded about the many pleasures of being part of this community. As much as I hate to admit it, much of my social/recreational time is devoted to this site. 968Forums is open 24/7 and my free time this past year has come in small chunks and at inconvenient times. Thanks to all of you for filling the gaps and making me more complete.
I don't speak for Pete, but I know that he has been very active behind the scenes in keeping communications flowing and offering his knowledge and time to those who reach out to him. I managed to find some time recently to stop in on RS Barn and the entire time I was there Pete was fielding calls from members of this site.
Any tribute to this site is worthless without our heartfelt appreciation for all of you that add to the content of 968Forums. Every question asked and answered adds to our collective knowledge. These cars are all aging at a similar rate and undoubtedly, any problem you experience we will all share at some time. As time goes by and parts become more and more difficult to source, we will need to rely on each other for support and creation of engineering and work-arounds.
I would like to add a special note of thanks to our friends, supporters, advocates and sponsors. We did not enter this project to enhance our wealth…so we have not been disappointed. We give huge thanks to those of you who help to defray the costs of maintaining and upgrading this site. Your financial support is important, and we are grateful to those of you who feel this site is worthy of your contribution.
Warmest Regards,
Jay
