HAPPY ANNIVERSARY 968FORUMS !
#1

A couple of weeks ago I got my daily call from Flash and it turned out that we both were thinking the same thing. It has been a year since Bob, Pete and I took the reins of 968Forums from Eric Sandoval. Since the world didn't "know" until January 16, 2008 we thought that this is the most appropriate date for our anniversary greeting. What a first year it has been!

This site is, and remains, all about YOU. When we first got involved, we knew that the site needs very little moderation, and despite strongly held opinions, it is a real pleasure to be a moderator on a site that hardly needs moderation.

In a few instances where Bob, Pete and I felt it was important to take a position we have been able to discuss each of our opinions and have come to agreement as partners to issue a statement. There have been a few unfortunate circumstances that have come up this year, and I hope that you will agree that we have dealt with them head-on, without infringing on anyone's right to speak their minds, if it took us a few days to conform our thoughts and message, we appreciate your forebearance..

A few words about my partners; it is obvious to all who visit here that Bob has made tremendous strides to organize and upgrade the information on this site. Yes, there have been some growing pains in trying to find old threads and using the search engine, but no one likes change and we hope that the vast majority of major changes are behind us. We have taken a very long-term view of the contents on this site, and hope that this information will be a legacy of our stewardship of these fine automobiles. 968Forums has become the standard-bearer for the 968 community and we hold that responsibility with the highest respect.

Pete and I have remained active and speak with Bob almost every day. Just as we stepped up to the plate here, my responsibilities at work grew at the same time. Seems the adage that "responsibility flows to those that accept it" is particularly true at this time in my life. I hoped to attend or sponsor a few fun runs and instead struggled to find time to get the car out of the garage (except to take it to RS Barn for much needed "Standard Maintenance"). I was able to attend a fun run in the Chesapeake region and am happy to report that out of approximately 100 Porsches, I was the sole 968, and I left an indelible mark in the minds of those I passed. Bob, Pete and I all managed to spend time with you at Hershey and look forward to Hershey in April 2009. I was happy to be able to meet up with a few friends in July at the Jersey Shore and I was reminded about the many pleasures of being part of this community. As much as I hate to admit it, much of my social/recreational time is devoted to this site. 968Forums is open 24/7 and my free time this past year has come in small chunks and at inconvenient times. Thanks to all of you for filling the gaps and making me more complete.

I don't speak for Pete, but I know that he has been very active behind the scenes in keeping communications flowing and offering his knowledge and time to those who reach out to him. I managed to find some time recently to stop in on RS Barn and the entire time I was there Pete was fielding calls from members of this site.

Any tribute to this site is worthless without our heartfelt appreciation for all of you that add to the content of 968Forums. Every question asked and answered adds to our collective knowledge. These cars are all aging at a similar rate and undoubtedly, any problem you experience we will all share at some time. As time goes by and parts become more and more difficult to source, we will need to rely on each other for support and creation of engineering and work-arounds.

I would like to add a special note of thanks to our friends, supporters, advocates and sponsors. We did not enter this project to enhance our wealth…so we have not been disappointed. We give huge thanks to those of you who help to defray the costs of maintaining and upgrading this site. Your financial support is important, and we are grateful to those of you who feel this site is worthy of your contribution.

Warmest Regards,

Jay

+ ninety bazillion trillion. My sincere appreciate to you three (and Eric for starting it all). You all have made ownership a more enjoyable experience!

Sooner or later, I'll get off my lazy @ss and contribute as an advocate or one of the others soon. As I am sure most of you already know, I'm slower than a snail with my "projects"!

Jay, Bob and Pete,

Congratulations on your 1st year Anniversary and to Eric for the initiative to create the website, in spite of the fact that there were competing 968 websites. The ability of 968 owners to communicate verbally and visually is fantastic!

Great job, thanks for your efforts in continually improving it.

Yeah, What Jay said!!!

I thought I'd give a state of the Barn address

This has been a very interesting year with the adoption of Forums and growth of RSB products and increased service business.

What this means though is I am pretty busy all the time. I rely on Bob and Jay to let me know when I need to look into something either technical or content. I think this balance works very well for all of us and creates an awesome resource for 968ers. While I don't post a whole bunch I get emails and calls all day long and try to respond asap.

I am very proud to be considered the expert and develop, test and market cool 968 stuff internationally. Last week in one day I had calls from Canada, Europe and Australia in the same day +US. RSB + Design 1 Products live on 968's on multiple continents. Yea Ha...

The Bosch Hammer diagnostic tool was produced in the 90's and pretty much dissapeared from circulation. I finally begged someone to sell me one (they had two) and I finally found a guy in England who made the cables to make mine work.

This equiptment is invaluable to the long term care of the 968. I've found certain problems that occur now and continue to appear with time are only diagnosed with the Hammer. Cetain fault codes are only cleared after repair and reset of Motronic.

This helps me to phone diagnose some of the weirder driveability stuff going on with our ageing cars.

OK, enough

Thanks to all who have supported RSB and Forums

Pete

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. Pete, you have saved my "doings" more than once, most recently today. This forum is all that guys like me have and, when there is a guy only 1800 km away who can tell you what to look for on the phone and get you what you need - well, it doesn't really get any better than that. Onward and upward, gentlemen!

thanks for all they kind words and encouragements

sorry i haven't been able to get to this until now - these last few days i've been incredibly swamped with 3 big shows

it has been a full year - we have seen a lot of change, and incredible increase in membership, and volumes of new information about our cars - i've been working hard to organize it so that those who come behind us can also enjoy the car and the community as much as we all do

it has become obvious to all that this is the best 968 site ever, and anything you want to know can be had here - we strive to provide the most accurate and up to date information available, in a format that can be easily searched and read - we give members a place to show off their stuff, and meet and gather to celebrate this great car - this is definitely where all the cool kids hang out - as with any large group, certainly there have been ups and downs and a few personal issues, but in the end, it's all about the car, and most have come to understand that - there is a place for everyone - all are welcome, and have an equal voice - anyone who just can't see their way clear to that we wouldn't invite to the party anyway

on to new news - this coming year we will see some new features added, better security against spammers - there will be more events planned, and we will finally get the rest of the old threads sorted (very daunting task) - we hope to be able to make everyone happy with the changes, but as we all know that is all but impossible - we will strive to do what is best for all though

i look forward to the best year ever, and hope to see more people getting more involved - these cars are just too much fun to ignore, and i think we need to remember that on a daily basis

thanks again for all your help - it is you who make this work, and it has not gone unnoticed
