"From 1992, Porsche embraced water-based paint technology. Since 1997 water-based filler has been in use."

Since reading this posting I was intrigued that Porsche actually had a water based coating in 1992. In the 1992 968 technical service information booklet numbered WKD 497 421 section 5 page 31 it states that color code 23F (slate gray metallic - that color ONLY) is a water based coating and references instructions in the paint manual regarding repair. The 1993 manual list no changes in paint types used. I'll have to look and see if I have info for 1994 and 1995.

Strange that they picked that one color to water base.

OK, here we go again. These books can give one a headache.

The booklet quoted from above is dated 08/1991. The supplement (#3) I just found is dated 10/1991 and states:

Slate gray metallic 22D = conventional paint

Slate gray metallic 23F - water based

Polar silver 92E = conventional paint

Polar silver 92M = water based

Amethyst pearl effect 38A = conventional paint

Amethyst pearl effect 83K = water based

Midnight blue metallic 37W = conventional paint

Midnight blue pearl effect 39C = water based

Midnight blues are not called the same color.

Jeff968, I see some colors I don't recognize. Can you confirm? Also found Indian red 80K, Rubystone red 82N, and Amazon green pearl effect 39A. Don't remember any cars those colors but I'm sure I haven't seen them all.
