Greetings from the Bronx

Okay I will do it. I will take care of it. The car is just sitting in my garage now. I can't drive it without tags so it will sit. Maybe Monday I might be able to get it registered and street legal. So far I only drove it home on dealer tags.

I will get the date off the belt too. I would expect this mechanic to fully cover the costs of having the head machined and valves replaced and whatever it would take to get the motor right again. I know this guy for years.

Quote:Yes, I agree with Chris completely. Also important to remember is that sometimes the balance belt fails and takes out the timing belt. We have seen that happen in this group.
That is actually a more common occurrence .   The composite and specs used in the manufacturing of timing belts are far more stringent than balance belts ..

If you do decide to change belts I might suggest Gates high performance / racing timing belt .. that’s what I put  in my car at the last replacement  .  I think it’s about 2 X or even more vs. the cost of their  regular belt , but Gates claims a lifetime longevity or 100,000 miles , whichever comes first .   Doubtful they’ll pick up the cost of your  engine rebuilt in the event of a premature failure, because they’ll find a way to attribute that to “ improper installation “, but I think it’s worth the price difference .

And while your current belt may be perfectly fine for many many miles and years to come , why take a chance , as low as the risk may be , on something which is really not all that expensive “ insurance “ / peace of mind ?

Sounds like that back pack you put on was actually a parachute that opened automatically after you jumped! Life would be no fun if they would have told you it was a parachute. Glad to here she isnt in dire straits, now you have to give her a name.
