Never really thought about the prospect of picking up a 968 until a few days ago when the opportunity showed up to pickup a 1994 Guards Red one.
Here is what I know so far. It has 51.1k miles on it, dealer maintained the entire time with records, one owner. All the timing work was done at 45k miles ahead of schedule. Comes with C4 wheels already on it.
Vehicle is pretty much pristine condition, though will likely need a clutch soon (how much would that run?)
Oh, its a 6 speed, lsd, painted spoiler, etc.
Family friend, so no worries about someone hiding anything, out the door for 12k. Any thoughts?

Figure a grand (?) for parts and labor on that clutch.
Otherwise, that sounds like a smokin' deal on a low mileage car.

RUN, do not walk to your nearest ATM. Empty it with both hands <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> That's a great deal!
Caveat: If there are no receipts for the timing belt, tensioners, seals, assume it hasn't been done and budget for it. At 51K miles, it's time. Also be sure to budget for variocam pad replacment. Be sure to ask your friend if the work has been done and budget for it.
Welcome to the club...you are in for many happy (s)miles.
Best,
Buzz

Please do not report this purchase to Bruce Anderson!
If the car is straight it was a smoking deal.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry about a deal like that. Wow.

Sorry, my intent was not to try and drive anyone crazy.
Regardless, I do not think its an accurate representation of the cars value. The owner is a family friend and was trying to sell it quickly to buy a new 997, I honestly never thought about the car until I heard, and even then only a passing moment.... though I called him about an hour later.
Long story short, he is the first/only owner of the car, all dealer maintenence done on or ahead of schedule including a full timing/variocam overhaul. The only thing it will likely need somewhere down the line is a clutch job as he told me that the balancer plate behind the clutch disc is wearing and the best way to replace that is during a clutch job. Never been hit, all original factory parts/paint.
It is getting inspected in the next few days, from there it will be mine. Only question I had for him was with the pinion bearing, he never heard of it an was never told anything about it by the dealer that maintained it. Is it safe to assume this will not be an issue?
Either way, the car is probably worth quite a bit more than I paid for it, though I don't know what it would really be worth, but it was never really offered to anyone but me, and offered to me because he knows I am a car guy who always helped him wash/clean/detail cars and we both take care of the cars and he would prefer to see it go somewhere that it would be taken care of rather than abused and modified horrendously.
Oh, btw, its a coupe not cabrio.

Depending on cosmetic condition, its probably worth at least 16K, especially in that color and with those options.
Score!
