OK..so my old windscreen (ws from here on) was cracked right in front of my face so that i was seeing two of everything. And about 2 months ago I started on the quest for a new one. Had some shipping issues with a place out west after buying a new ws, but they were super nice and allowed me to return it for a small restocking fee.
no luck anywhere for a week or two, then the local dealer says they have 10 that just arrived in Atlanta. First one or two ws's shipped to dealer (fed ex) were smashed. third one made it just fine. I go and look at it and its in good shape. i buy the rubber surround for 40$ and think all is well (had to get the antenna version, but can;'t see it really)
I bring it to Laird's glass in Plymouth, mi. Super guy named Terry has been doing this for years. He takes one look and sees that the ws is missing the plastic U channel into which the rubber seal snaps. AND he notices that the windscreen has already been primed. I'm just a little pissed that Porsche did not check its returns and call the dealer. They were great and will work something out with me. Because of this, Teryy had to use a generic rubber surround. it has a tiny groove in it and is not smooth like the original, but otherwise it looks perfect!!
So, if you get a new ws, make sure it has the U channel (it should be wrapped in shrink wrap as well, apparently)
