Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control I will miss my first GAF. It is a great event and highly recommend it to anyone in the area. Have a great time and I will be there in spirit.

Ditto. And I plan to toast a few glasses of wine to the memory of being there last

year with you guys, so it could be said I'll also be there... in "spirit" .

Unfortunately I'll be out of town that weekend, so perhaps next year.

After checking the 04 pics on the web site, they seem to be more interested in the 911 crowd. Out of 50 odd pics, we were in a half frame of 1 pic.

ok - so far, we at least have a few trusty, loyal, enthusiastic guys coming (translation, sick, demented die hards)

rendezvous at 6AM at my house for those on the west side and south - 7:30 at the gate for everyone else - then we can line up and go in

As luck would have it my business trip canceled at the last minute so I was able to keep my perfect attendence record for GAF at 5 years in a row. First year I went with other people so couldn't drive my own car. Second year I almost ran over Steven Spielberg. Third year it was my pleasure to meet Eric Sandavol. Fourth year 17 or 18 of us attended and had a blast. This year..... low turn out but I scored a Factory CS steering wheel with the embossed leather in black at a great price and could not be happier. Can not wait (with a little help from my friends) to install the darn thing and use it as I have driven other 968's with the wheel and LOVED it! I'll report back after I get it installed.....still can't believe the price I got. Still a pretty fair event.

You can't tease us with the price without sharing it. $200? or less?

Wow Eric.......I said I got a great price.....not free! I was told the retail was $595 or was it $695? The retailer I bought it from told me his cost was $375, regardless I can't wait to get it in the car.

Off topic: I dropped the Benz off this morning to have the lowering/sportline springs installed after last weeks installation of new Bilstiens. My guy told me that when he is done with it I will want to take it to the track as it will be so transformed. I had to laugh as I told him there would be little chance I would be at the track with a big heavy 4 door when I have a spankin fun 2 door that loves the track (especially since I'll soon have the new steering wheel)!

Sunset charged me $390 with shipping... You got a good deal though. You are going to love the wheel. It really adds to the driving experience.

yeah, i called sunset today for some other stuff and checked while i had them on the phone - 380 without shipping - a wash, so yes, he got a good deal, or at least as good as it gets

of course, the guy sold him the wrong one (wrong hub), and now he gets to wait a couple of days for the new one.........(hence the call to sunset)

Well.....today on my lunch hour with the help of my friend the new wheel was installed on the car. I am so happy to not have to look at the ugly big pillowed original wheel that I couldn't believe the difference in the look. Over the past weekend I changed out my shift boot to black from the classic grey and recovered the center console arm rest in black leather as well and overall the interior has a much more modern look to it. My highest recommendation!

P.S. I have the old rim in classic grey with the airbag and is available to anyone for cheap if anyone is in need.

HEY !! I happen to think that wheel is far more elegant and better suited

to the stock interior than the 3-spoke one. Sure, driving ( hands-o-meter ) may be more fun with the sport design wheel, but then it's also more fun to have Bob's sport seats too, so I'll probably do both at the same time. Until then, I'll stay with the "classier aesthetics " .

Dan......I'm surprised you like the original wheel as much as you do?!? I'm sorry but the OEM wheel is asthetically poorly executed and the airbag cover is really out of proportion with the rest of the wheel. The other thing I forgot to mention was how glad I am to not have the potential dynamite explosion of the airbag hitting me in the head should (god forbid) the worst happens. Can't wait to hear what you have to say once you get the wheel installed.

I'll just have to look at your car next time and get a "live" visual... could change my mind, but for now the only thing that bothers me about the oem wheel is the idiotic , impossible-to-locate-and-press-them-in-a-panic, horn(s). And don't anyone of you say that's why we have opposable thumbs..

And now, a bit OFF TOPIC, but not by much... Mother Theresa is strolling around heaven and after noticing Lady Di on an adjacent cloud, sporting a much bigger halo then hers, promptly runs over to God and demands an explanation, given that while Lady Di's work with the less fortunate was admirable, surely it can't compare with her life dedication to such.. to which God replies: " that's not a halo attached to her head, it's the Mercedes' steering wheel.. "

Ok, in really poor taste, but come on, admit it - right now you're laughing your ass off

Speaking of Steering wheels, does anyone know if the 996/Boxster wheel with Airbag will work on the 968? I have heard both yes and no but think it would be a cool addition if it worked...
