That's why I suggested a postmortem on the old filter. If there is no junk in there then the re-re of the gas tank might be a futile exercise.

Gas goes from the tank to the pump to the filter, so the stock filter is after the pump. There is a fuel screen in the tank that should block most debris from getting out to the pump but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I replaced the in tank screen after the first pump and before the second. I found some black debris in the filter that looks like charcoal, so I need to check the tank next.
