Ferdinand "Butzi" Porsche passes away on April 5th
#1

Butzi, as he was known, passed away today at the age of 76. As the grandson of the automaker's namesake, Butzi was responsible for the design of the 911, one of the most iconic designs in history.

While this forum is about 968's which sometimes draw the ire of 911 drivers, many of us also appreciate and have owned the 911. I love them both as well as other Porsche models of the past.

Rest in peace Butzi, you left a legacy for the world.

Saw that headline today, in spite of my dislike of the body style of the 911, you simply cannot dismiss his creativeness and influence in the automotive world. He deserves all due respect. RIP.

Anyone who can create a legacy that continues pretty much in its same form after 60 years has created something very special. Particularly given the amount of joy it has given the owners (and possibly pain in the pocket). Planes have jet engines and have grown, but a 911 still has a 6 cylinder engine, in the same place and looks very similar to the original. It says something that the original 911's are now in some cases worth more than the new ones.

You would have to call that a positive contribution to mankind.
