New Car
#1

Sunday I'm driving to Allentown to meet up with a fellow to look at and drive his red 93 coupe. Interestingly enough even though I own a coupe I'm like all ramped up and can't wait. If I like it it will go over to Max for a <acronym title='pre purchase inspection'>PPI</acronym>. Thanks to those who were kind enough to give me advice in selection and what to look for to make sure it's a sound decision! I have been looking for a couple of months now and this is the first one I will be looking at. Was looking for a 911 before I got the good advice which moved me back. Prices are all over the map on 911 and Cayman's and tough to figure out value. Or I don't know how too!! Lol surely I'm jinxing myself but the lift is supposed to be installed tomorrow finally. We will see. Just in time for bday so timing is cool. Zoom zoom.

Would this become your track car?

No pulling the wool over your eyes. Lol. Yes that is my thought. Just seemed like a better way to go about it. Although I've yet to see the car, I sent my brother over to check it out. They live in the same town. He thought it was in decent shape. He's a pilot and über observant and knows some about cars certainly about engines. Some cosmetic problems but service records seem to indicate a well maintained car. Second owner currently and has owned it for 16 years. 148000 miles on it but Bob and I went over what was repaired over the years. Still will have to pass through Max or reduce the price depending.

That sounds like it has potential. But beware! A bone stock 968, while a great car to learn track driving on, will quickly leave you yearning for more once you get a little more seat time, and then it's a slippery slope, my friend. Make sure that money tree in your back yard is well watered and fertilized <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" />.

That was my dilemma as I searched the last two months. But along with some great advice from here, I decided that at this stage it was the path to take. I've already started to learn on the 968 so I will continue. If and when more becomes an overriding itch well then I will cross that bridge then. Didn't I mention that I'm going to win the powerball so money will be no problem? Lol the real issue will be if I develop a need to pull the car to the track. So I'm just doing small steps in small stages instead of jumping right in.

Everyone sit down please. I don't want you to fall on the floor. The lift is being installed as I speak!

It's not *us* falling you need to worry about...! (I still use tall jack stands even when the car is on the lift.)

Of course not done. The floor has a slight slope to channel water into the drains. All four posts must be level. So we need a steel plate to level one post. Perhaps this week. Looks cool and fits well into the area I designed it to fit in.

My customer who just started driving DE's 3 years ago in a bone stock 968 was promoted to Black group in Riesentoter this weekend. Now his car has lots of mods, but is still a 3100lb monster that is completely street legal. It's also too nice to gut.

Rap, you can do it.

That's the cool thing about these cars - they're a safe and stable platform to learn on, but they also have a lot of tuning potential, particularly in the suspension.

Is there a reason to do <acronym title='pre purchase inspection'>PPI</acronym>'s you ask? Well sure there is! I drove down to Allentown today to meet the gent with the 93 coupe. We talk a bit while I look all over his car. Nice chap couple of cosmetic dings, one scrap on right front bumper. Engine bay not as well sorted as mine( clean). Yea I know somewhat arrogant but just merely an observation. So we get in to take it for a spin. Now let's step back for some filler. This guy when he found out that I required a <acronym title='pre purchase inspection'>PPI</acronym> said ok. Then I mentioned that he would need to take it over to Max, about an hour away one way. So he says ok but would I be willing to give a $500 refundable deposit that would be refunded if I chose not to purchase the car for any reason. Sort of a good faith gesture. I of course being the swell fellow that I am said, but of course. Then I told him my attorney would draft the document and I would have it to him the next day. I also mentioned that as a businessman that I wasn't in the habit of giving strangers money even if it was a refundable deposit. So then he wanted to get a offer. I of course told him that ot would be dependent on the <acronym title='pre purchase inspection'>PPI</acronym>. He really was trying to ascertain how close hos lowest acceptable price would be to my highest offer. Again can you say <acronym title='pre purchase inspection'>PPI</acronym>?

So now we agree to meet with only the <acronym title='pre purchase inspection'>PPI</acronym> agreed upon. By the way I offered to pay for his gas over and back. I jump into the car and we start. It runs well. We move onto a country road and I punch it in second gear. Well lo and behold it starts to miss in second. I shift to third pressing the pedal and it misses and sort of bucks. The poor guy seemed genuinely embarrassed. As long as one was soft on the pedal the car was fine. Punch it and it missed. So we headed back to were we met and agreed to move forward with Max. I told him when he asked that his asking price would be my starting point. Life goes on. Again at the risk of sounding arrogant, boy I have a nice car!
