I agree with Germany as the legitimate and deserving champion from a whole tournament perspective, but I think Argentina had the edge in this particular match, played better all around and deserved to win it, albeit some amazing chances completely blown..so maybe they do not deserve to win after all , LOL. Also agree that Messi getting the MVP was highly questionable , so pretty odd choice but who else would one give it to ? Robben ? James ? And while I'm at it, Howard was snubbed ! Sure it may have been only one match, but he surpassed the all time previous record of saves in a single match not by one or two , but by a factor of 3 X ! As a side note, you have to give it to Goetze - he's just a kid, most everyone on the field is a head taller than him, yet under the pressure of a World Cup final he has the composure to score with one of the most beautiful controlled finishes and precisions seen in this tournament . Kudos to him ! All in all, a good final though and I'm glad it did not go to PKs. Congrats Germany .

I propose the World Cup changes to a once every other year event, with the Euro and tne other pan-continents tournaments taking place in the year between. Continuous fix for the junkies who want to see national teams battle it out more often. League seasons are tne warm-up :-) :-)



After the match I stopped by a store to pick up something for dinner and overheard two middle age guys talking about their lack of interest in today's World Cup match because they simply find soccer boring, and then almost in the same breath talked about what's happening in tne world of baseball this weekend .. Oh, the irony : soccer with non-stop action for at least 90 minutes is boring to them, but sitting around for three hours, sometimes even longer, watching a game ( can't even call it a sport, that would be laughable ..) where the average play action in aggregate averages an entire 9 minutes somehow manages to excite them. Whatever ! Lol.

Try to hit a 90mph curve ball. Slow and boring at times yes but soccer reminds me of Nascar. Your head just goes back and forth back and forth. 1-0 hmm that would have had me on the edge of my seat!

Try to save a soccer ball kicked from a few feet away at 80-90 mph avg with occasional ones up to 110 mph. ( Roberto Carlos's kick was clocked at 124 mph) and do that while guarding a space around you that's 24 ft long and 8 ft high ! ( Having been a GK, that's the first thing that came to mind, LOL.)

I guess you're not a fan of tennis either, eh ? :-) since your head goes back and forth all the time that is .. watching players hitting tennis balls traveling 140 mph and spinning , hundreds of times during a match and actually hitting most of them ( as opposed to baseball pitches ) for hours on end. Hmm, kinda makes that occasional 90 mph curve ball seem like child's play doesn't it ?

Spain is a "has been" team. Good players that are past their prime with no young outstanding players coming up through the system.

On the other hand, the German and Dutch teams are on average young, so I expect them to have a good showing...

It was the 0x0 portion of the World Cup final that had me on the edge of my seat, because you know that if one team makes a mistake or has a moment of brilliance, it can be all over. You never know when that is going to happen...

The 1x0 final was a much better game for soccer enthusiasts, than the 7x1 pounding Brazil took.

I played soccer in hs way back when we had to travel at least 50 miles to our games because there were no other hs teams around at that time. I don't doubt the talent of these players. Its obvious! No I don't watch tennis except for the women for very short periods of time. Stand on the edge of the freeway, toes on the line and then have a friend drive by you at 90-100 mph 6"from that line. Although the mass is larger very few of us experience that speed so close to our bodies. Goaltenders no doubt have good eye to hand but I'm guessing not every kick comes in as fast as your example. Most pitchers pitch 90+ for most of there pitch repertoire, changeups or knuckle balls excluded. Everyone enjoys different sports! For whatever reason!

I'm in the category of the unenlightened American who doesn't get what all the fuss is about regarding this game, but I have to say, that goal scored by the German guy to win it for his team (watched in a 15-second highlight on ESPN, of course) was pretty spectacular. The way he caught it against his body, kept it airborne, and then executed a perfect kick was an amazing display of athleticism and cool under incredible pressure. Kind of make me see what the fuss is all about. Almost....

Drivers of almost any discipline are in great shape. Driving at that level is both physically and mentally taxing. The Porsche drivers have a special training they go through. It's been shown on the PCA newsletter if anyone's interested. So DS your still playing the field? Shuffling braods around must be tiring for a young guy like you. Do you use the 150 mile rule?
