FIFA WORLD CUP 2014 - BRAZIL

This was taped to my computer monitor as I came to work this morning... before the game.

Oh well... now we cheer exclusively for Holland!!!

Yeah, it did look like a team of amateurs against Germany, but if you look at almost every previous game Brazil played in this cup, you have to admit they were extremely lucky to get as far as they have, although no one could possibly expect this kind of beating. Pretty stunning to watch, I feel sad for tne Brazilian fans, not so much for the team, they need a wake up call and realize they're no way near as good as they think they are ..

Can't believe Ozil missed what would have been goal number 8 in a 1:1 with the goalie, but even more so I can't believe that he was being ripped by his teammates for not scoring that additinal goal... Seriously ?! Klose I could understand, the team would want to build even more on his now all time record, but to ride Ozil's ass when you're leading 7-0 with minutes left is just...asinine. Sheesh,

Wonder what the Dutch and Argentinian players are thinking at this moment ahead of tomorrow's match ..ostensibly two fairly even teams ...as this one was supposed to be , lol. The Dutch should win just so we can watch the "war" that will be Brasil -Argentina match for the third place - ugh, that could get really ugly, and I don't mean only on the field ..

So a Brit friend of mine emailed me this " poster " which was making its rounds soon after England's exit from the cup - I wonder if and what Brasil will come up with to top it ... .

Astonishing if you compare the game level of the Premiere League and the state the English national team is in. If I remember correctly they also did not exactly kick ass in the last WC. I wonder what's going on there. Not a lack of talent, that's for sure. Mentality?

that's because the premier league has only a few English players, if you think about the top teams, the majority of players are from all over the world - I remember at one point Arsenal ( my fav. ) did not have a single english player out of the 11 starting line.. and the other teams, Chelsea , Man City, Man U, etc.. had about 3 or 4 at most.

Here is what needs to happen for the Brazilians to have some measure of redemption:

* Holland pounds Argentina by a score of (let's say...) 4 x 0

* Brazil then defeats Argentina on Saturday

* Holland then goes on to beat Germany in the final

Is any of that possible?

That's kinda odd. Our national team improved as more and more Belgian players left our competition... Mostly TO the Premier League.

Ps: That flag is hilarious!

I agree.

As for possible, yes of course. Probable ? IMO, # 1 unlikely to be a pounding by that kind of margin , # 2 I'd like to see a pounding actually just to have Brasil restore some pride for their suffering fans, and # 3 Holland better win or they'll only expand on already a world record number of losses in the Final and that stigma of being a bridesmaid, never a bride .

Holland x Argentina going into extra time!

I have been on edge all game. If only Robben had put it away in the last minute...

guess there'll be a lot of tango-ing in buenos aires tonight, and in amsterdam ..well, i guess the dutch boys will just go back to sticking their fingers in the first dyke they find ( err.. i meant dike.. damn autocorrect feature ! ) <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ninja.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

sorry, could not resist. seriously though, i was soooo hoping holland would win . oh well - i don't have any prediction for the final, nor the third place

As much as the third place match is called the " who cares " , " why bother " or " losers game " , this one does have a lot of meaning for both teams ; Brasil desperately needs a lift for their fans to leave them with at least a sense of hope ( and redemption for the humiliation they suffered at home..) and Netherlands got burned in so many previous cups ( not just being second so often, but losing the third spot to Croatia in one cup , which was particularly painful ..) enough to make them prove they are still a powerhouse and the last loss was just a matter of bad luck .

Brasil though, has more to lose ( IMO ) because whereas in many countries soccer may be a major passion, or maybe even a national obsession , I don't think there is another nation where this sport defines an entire culture as it does in Brasil. It's is as important, if not more so than religion in that country, it's part of the fabric of every human being , it's a daily thought on everyone's mind, inseparable part of their soul .. Netherlands can lose and they'll get over it in a few weeks, shifting their focus to another issues , but Brasilians will likely remain depressed for months or years over this, with deep emotional lasting scars. Yeah, it's that serious there ...

Deutschland Weltmeister! The legitimate champion, both when looking at the tournament as a whole, as in the final match.

Messi recieved the 'Golden Ball'. Kinda odd imo. Kinda odd in his opinion too I think.
