expansion tank

I need help changing my expansion tank. I was told it was only 2 clamps and a few screws to replace the tank. There is nothing wrong with mine but it is discolored. I can not find any info on doing this job. I looked in DIY but did not see any thing that would help step by step to replace tank. Also I see I will have to remove the 2 nuts that run along the top of fender to release tank, does any one have any trick to doing this in the least damaging way? thanks so much for any help.

it is pretty easy and straight forward - the biggest pain is the coolant going everywhere, no matter how much you try to control it - you really need to drain it out



there is a forked tab at the bottom, held down by a nut, that is a bit of a pain, but otherwise, it's a simple job

Is the only option for a new coolant expansion tank the plastic one?

The reason I ask is because my son bought a "bling" aluminum one with side sight glass for his NSX. Made the whole engine bay look MUCH better than the sight of a large white "blob" (in most of our cases - YELLOW) in the engine bay.

Perhaps only vaguely related, but does anybody know the correct rating for the pressure cap. The one I have indicates 14 PSI and it looks cheesy. A 14 PSI rating seems too low for a high performance engine, I would think closer to 18/19 PSI would be correct

for the 968.

I know they're not a site sponsor, and that they specialize more in 944's, particularly the 951, than 968s, but they have a lot of interesting and unique items, such as the 3-piece cross-member, a lot of lucbrication system improvements, including a 3x oversized oil cooler, weld-in oil pan baffle, and an awesome-looking dry sump kit (for a cool $5K with all the bells and whistles), etc. But as far as the expansion tank, yes, it looks kind of cool, but when I think of the number of track sessions I could buy for $349, it puts it pretty low on my priority list, but that's just me.

BVA & Cloud9...68, thanks for the lead and link! That is exactly what I was looking for. I printed out the link and it has been added to my "winter wish / project" list! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

It may be ~$200 more than the $150 plastic one, but since I am not looking to spend $$$ on upgrade performance parts, but on items that enhance the "looks", I can mentally justify the cost. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

That tank looks nice but I don't think I could live without the see-through tank. I like to see the level and check to make sure there is no oil residue sticking to the sides. That give me a heads up if something is going wrong.
