Excellence 968/Boxster/3.2 Shootout
#81
Given what that “typical enthusiast's ” totally stock car was subsequently put up against you'd think Karl Rove was running Excellence.
WOW!!! As a Concours enthusiast I cannot hlep but admire your motor. How did you detail it like that? It is absolutely beautiful! Do you have any more pictures?

ok - i finally got around to reading the article

while i will likely get a lot of grief over this, i think pete was spot on on his review of the car he drove, and pretty much parallels my opinon of the stock standard 968

the only 2 things that i think he could have done better in setting up the match were:

1 - choose a more typical example - he said he was looking for what the enthusiast typically drives, and these days that means, at a minumum, upgraded airbox and chip, and possibly 17s

2 - the price point clearly puts the 968 at the very bottom of the 15-25k range - for the midpoint 20k they were shooting for, they could definitely have gotten an M030 car, which would have dramatically changed the way they felt

i'm not sure where they got the market figures, but i think they could have done better in selecting a car that was more market nominal and typical in example - i don't think a bone stock standard 968 is the "norm" anymore

still, a good article, and shows the different characters of the 3 cars

Airbox, chip, 17s, and add M030 sway bars to that.

yeah - that's why i said in "1" "at a minimum" and then in "2" suggested the M030 - perhaps the swaybars should be added to the first list, but i know a lot of cars that still have the stock ones, as well as still run 16s, but not to many that don't have the box and chip

lol - but that is changing more as time goes on, and people realize that keeping the car stock just won't pay off, and they would rather enjoy it more now than worry about any possible increase in value later - sure there are still plenty of stock cars out there, but their numbers are dwindling fast

my point is that i think the perception pete had of what is the norm out there is off or outdated
