great video thanks!
coming from Clarkson - he used the word 'sensational' to describe the car at one point - seems like a fair review to me.
compare our cars today to that beast of a Jag, or the Nissan - man oh man was he wrong about the styling! Give me another car from the early 90's that looks as good today . . . 993, 928, NSX are contenders
I loved how he pushed the 968 'off the cliff' at the end - what a nut
I have a magazine that reviewed and compared the 968 to the 3rd Generation RX7. Interesting read since I own both cars. As for the condition of older RX7's a large part of it has to do with the people who are buying them. The typical 968 owner is older and better off financially than the typical RX7 owner which means they probably take better care of them. I still love my RX7 but I also can easily see the build quality is not as good as the 968. Combine these two factors and it is easy to see why the RX7 hasn't fared as well over time. However, the RX7 still looks new and gets stares every where it goes. I think it will be one of the cars you will see go up in value and end up on Barrett Jackson in 15 years. Can't say that I believe the same is going to be true about the 968.
A better comparison for the 968 in regards to build quality and similar owners would be the NSX. I was a big fan of the NSX but after driving one I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. My 951 and RX7 felt way faster.
I had looked into the a 3G RX-7 as a possibility (as well as a Supra TT) when looking into a new car and determined that the 968 was going to be my best choice. The RX-7 was designed well, great balance, good power, light weight, etc. The thing that scared me was the rotary. I don't know anything about them and I've heard horror stories about having to rebuild every 60k because the seals blowout. I'd rather have to replace my timing/balance shaft belts every 60k than have to buy a new motor. Just like the Supra, the RX7 got a lot of hype from "The Fast and the Furious," and will get looks not only from us "kids," but still looks modern and sporty today.

I was also debating between the Supra and RX7. I drove both and was taken more so by the Supra for looks and the ability to upgrade reliably w/ great HP potential. However the 7 was much easier to come by and the price much more affordable. Rotary and Turbos are a match made in heaven. Those things sprint like scolded cats and provide a great feel. What scared me away was the amount of fires reported on the message boards and what I have witnessed in person. I have 3 friends with 93-96 RX7s and all 3 had fires under the hood. Something to do w/ Mazda’s vacuum lines I believe.
However once I drove a 951 I was done with both. I would still consider a Supra TT though <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!
