ESCAPE 2010 - Sun Peaks BC
#1

Just returned from ESCAPE 2010 at Sun Peaks, BC.
Had a great time at my first PCA event, along with my wife Darlene.
The following 968 owners were present:
Rj & Linda Wilmoth from Texas - 94 Midnight Blue Coupe (PCA Longhorn Region)
Robert & Marilyn Van Heuit from Oregon - 93 White Coupe (PCA Cascade Region)
Chris & Joanna Cochrane from BC - 94 Black Coupe (PCA Canada West Region)
Erik Dumas from Calgary, Alberta - (?) Yellow Coupe (aftermarket turbo) (PCA Wild Rose Region - President)
Jake & Darlene Kuik from Langley, BC - 93 Polar Silver Cab (PCA Canada West Region)

The photo here shows the four 968 that were in the Show & Shine. Erik won the Front Engine category with his 968 Yellow Coupe with an aftermarket turbo (this 968 was front cover of the June 1999 Excellence magazine), with our Cab coming second. Voting was done by PCA participants. Good to see (5) 968's at Escape 2010, with only (3) 928's and (1) 944 Cab! Although it rained early in the morning, the weather held out during the day and 127 cars were put out on display.

There were many tours organized and we went on the Wine Tour. In this pic you can see the White 968 that did not enter the Show & Shine.

I will post more pics when I get home tonight.

I just want to share this bit on info with the 968 crowd:
At the Saturday night dinner, Joe Lawrence, the (new) CEO of Porsche Canada (and formerly with BMW), in his speach made special mention of the 968's that he saw in the Show and Shine. He was pleased to see five at the event. He confessed that the 968 has always been a favorite of his, since he had owned 944 Turbo in his younger years. I don't think those comments went over well with the 911 crowd!

We promoted this event at the Black Rock gettaway earlier this year due to slow sales and shortly therafter they managed to sell out which is great. I would have attended but the slow sales reason was the pricing which kept me away; especially after adding the ferry costs. Glad it all went well. I am hopeing to have the SC in for next spring and tootle over to the big smoke and meet all the 968 locals.

Cool 968s. I would love to know the story behind that speed yellow coupe.

Or the red 68 in the foreground that looks like his sunroof has 2 pieces? There is a line bisecting his sunroof and it doesn't appear to be a reflection.
Maybe that's not a 968 as the wiper arm looks at an odd angle?

Jeff- SY coupe is the Kelly Moss-built turbo IIRC.

Dave - I think the "extra" line on the red coupe sunroof is a reflection from a lamp post or something along those lines. If you look closely, you will see the coloration/shading is different.

Here is a close up of the car and you can see a copy of Excellence laying on the window!

The story on the Yellow 968 Turbo is in the June 1999 issue of Excellence. Here is what the cover looks like.

The red car is a 928, one of only three 928's in the Show & Shine.

Here are some pictures of "older" 911's lined throughout the "pedestrian" walk way through the village.

Two GT3's and a GT2!

I still think that the rear view of a 968 is the "best" view!

Chatting to couple that drove all the way from North Carolins (3000+ miles) in their Boxster. They also have a 968 Cab! We are waiting for the tours to start at the staging area.

Regrouping at the Chevron station in Kamloops and filling up with 94 octane!

Picture of the cars behind us while on the Wine Tour. There were 25 Porsche's on this tour, with two 968's - you can see the White 968 Coupe from Oregon (which was not in the Show & Shine) in the lineup!

We were planning on attending until our trip to Europe came up. We suspected it would be really terrific. I believe next year's Escape is in Flagstaff, AZ, and if so, we'll make every effort to be there.

Chris - Escape 2011 will indeed be at Flagstaff, AZ. My wife and I are also talking about going there. We look forward to seeing another 968 Cab in Polar Silver!
I also saw from you Gallery that you have a picture of RJ & Linda Wilmoth @ the 2004 Rocky Mtn 968 Gathering. RJ had a map in his car at the Show & Shine, which had all the PCA events that they have attended, each in a different color. Those two have been around!

For those who do not receive the PCA "E-Brake" email, here is a Youtube link about Escape 2010:

I just re-watched the video and the CEO of Porsche Canada makes mention of seeing some 968's at the event. There is also a great shot of the 968 Turba rights at the end. Enjoy!

Jim: That is correct. The Speed Yellow 968 Turbo Coupe was indeed built by Kelly Moss back in the day. I also found out it was the first SY coupe brought into the United States. It was great to meet fellow 968 owners at the Escape and look forward to seeing more next year in Flagstaff.
