Rough running at low rpm
#1

My ’93 Coupe started to suffer from rough running. The problem occurs only at low RPMs (850 - ~ 2500) and when not on full throttle. When I accelerate hard the car performs fine. There’s no difference in behavior when the engine is either hot or cold. If I open the throttle very slowly the engine misfires till around 2500 RPM but seems runs fine at higher RPMs.

What would be the best place to start troubleshooting? <acronym title='mass air flow'>MAF</acronym>, distributor, spark plugs or can it be caused by something mechanical? I’ve verified the timing of the balance belt which is fine. Any help is appreciated.

What is the condition of the hall sender on the back of the distributor?

I've replaced the connector of the hall sender a couple of months ago (was still running fine after). Is it possible to inspect the sensor itself? I assume that if the hall sender is bad this results in a fault code?

Sometimes it will trigger a code and sometimes not. I don't think you can really inspect it, more of a replace thing. I had symptoms like that and it didn't throw a code until after about a thousand miles and it gave a intermittent code for the sensor. If it doesn't fix it, you will at least have a spare for that fleet of 968's you have.
