Took a long drive, new noise
#1

This forum has been invaluable so far so thanks for all the help.

I took the car on an extended ride today so it could stretch its legs out and when I returned home I had a new rattle noise.

Sounds like it's coming from the clutch area (hope I am wrong)  Anyone have any ideas?

Could be a lot of things, maybe just a loose heat shield.

Does it change with engine rpm? Clutch in/out? Can you hear it while driving?

Use a mechanic's stethoscope to see if it's coming from the bottom of the block, bell housing, or torque tube.

Agree.

Just had my car in for a torque tube bearing swap and there were loose and /or bent heat shields that were fixed. As the shields warm up they bend and rattle against the car in a way that does not happen when cold.

In my experience as rattle is not the sound that is heard from my clutch area.

pdxmike has good advice.
