Engine cover
#1

Some like them better without (which became the standard as of MY 94 or 95), but our 1992 is missing both the front piece (944.504.143.00.01C) as the back piece (944.504.533.01C) of the black engine cover.

Adding them to the car won’t change that much to the driving fun, so I do not want to spend silly money on these. But my control freak nature gets disturbed by the incompleteness of the car.

Anybody has these on spare and is willing to sort them at a reasonable price?

I noticed them missing when I bought my 94 Cabriolet. I don't know why Porsche deleted them, maybe to save a few bucks. I was lucky that our famous flash had the front and back hidden in is attic. I bought those, and the car looks so much more complete

Nice.  I thought Porsche also deleted the brackets to mount them on, but this does not seem to be the case, since you could add them to your car.

I think the cover on our car has been removed when an aftermarket anti-theft system was added with a sirene mounted in the front of the engine bay.

Kaj "I noticed them missing".

Is that the same as "I looked for it and, there it was, gone".

Merry Christmas. I find it hard to go more than I day without making some sarcastic comment to somebody about something. Pay me no mind, I am simply at my office bored.

Yes, they stopped installing them somewhere along the line.

My car also didn't have installation brackets, but the covers just lay in place.

Flash actually send me the brackets when I bought the covers. He also send detailed instructions how to install them. Easy job. I like the way they make the engine bay complete.

Funny how I always looked at the engine bay in the beginning and said to myself. "there is something missing here". Then one day I looked at a 92  bay...and yes then I knew!!

Yes, the front piece has two "L" brackets that the two fastener knobs twist into. Takes one sheet metal screw to attach each one. They stay in place without them, but nice to have.

Hey Waylander,  are these UK prices?  Seems better than what I’ve found on the web.

They are from PET, the Porsche parts system with up to date pricing

I sure I did that in USA area, but I ca double check

Always go to your Porsche Main Desler first for pricing quite often they are cheaper

In the U.K. we get an extra 10% off for being PCGB (Porsche Club GB) members,

Cheapest US price I could find for back engine cover is USD $99.    Mine has a broken tab and is flopping loosely in engine bay, so it's on my list to replace at some point.

Is that a dealership? we have parts places over here like design911, type911, rose passion and others, but most of the time the Porsche main dealer like

https://www.porscheeastlondon.co.uk/

are cheaper

and definitely cheaper for lots of parts than 30 year old rubbish on ebay

I bought a new cover to go over the fuel sender in the boot / trunk, $20 plus on eBay, $7 brand new from Porsche

I believe the link I posted was from a reseller of Porsche Parts - the part itself was listed as new.

It's usually hard to get a price quote online from a porsche dealer, but easy enough to call and ask (which, admittedly I haven't done in this case).   In the US, I've found that generally, genuine parts can be found online in new condition for slightly less than getting from a dealer.   Not via ebay, but via parts distributors (Pelican parts, Suncoast, etc).

Here's a link to an actual Porsche dealer price for the same part - $6 more - Rear Engine Cover 944-504-533-00-01C | Porsche Marin (porschemarinparts.com) - the difference (either way) could also easily be made up in shipping cost vs getting it from the local dealer (depending on price at the dealer), so I'll definitely check there as well but for our cars whatever parts I've had to get from the local dealer have typically had to be shipped in regardless, so not much difference in "availability".

Yes pelican and sunset are parts resellers just like ours, if you have a main dealership in you local city or town, it’s better to buy from them as it keeps the parts purchase going through the database back in Stuttgart, helps keeps the parts flowing for our cars

a few years ago I went to an event, an evening with Derek Bell, what a night out that was, anyway I spent about 30 min chatting to the head of classic spares from Stuttgart as he was there, and he said the more spares we buy direct the more support Porsche will put into spares for years to come

Interesting, that's good to know and gives me added incentive to purchase from the local dealership.   Thanks for the info!
