E36 vs 968

lol - not a mercedes fan - however, we did see an uber rare manual gearbox SLK350 for sale that caught her eye for a minute - that is, until she tried to figure out where to put her purse - that car has NO room anywhere - not even a glove box

Ooh - the new style SLK is another of my favorite cars, looks-wise. But, if you believe Consumer Reports, Mercedes, as an overall brand, are THE most poorly-made cars imported to the US in terms of reliability, behind even lowly Chrysler.

I dont believe it.

My parents both have Merc's and they have been more than perfect. In fact, do not tell anyone, I actully like driving them.

I really like the SL55 Still one of my favorite designs, a clutch would however make that car so much more appealing. I do applaud them on comfort and innovation. One big down fall I noticed about Mercs is they don't hold their value like other German cars. Ive been amazed at some of the prices Ive seen those things sell for.

Sadly, it's true how this proud brand has fallen into such a state of shambles in terms of their quality control, and it's been documented in other sources besides Consumer Reports. I've seen articles in car and business magazines about Mercedes' quality issues, and Merceds admits they have a large problem. What's really telling is that it's not just a model here and there; every vehicle they make has either a full or a half black circle in CU's rating system. Your parents are very lucky, but their experience goes against the aggregrate of the data.
