DO you do the following.
#1

Do you do the following when in a store:

drop your Credit card/money on the counter instead of handing it to the cashier.

Talk on your cell when dealing with a cashier.

Ask a store employee a question without first greeting him/her or saying excuse me.

"NO" to all three. My Mama taught me good manners.

No to all 3.

And when in a restaurant, I always make sure to treat the server with respect as an equal (not a subordinate). You get much better service that way, and I actually have a much better time when eating out: my father taught me that.

I have on occasionally done the cell phone thing, I am perpetually on call and my clients/coworkers don't call my cell unless it is urgent. I will ask the person on the other end of the phone to hold on if possible. If it rings before I get in line I will delay getting in line until done like I did last night.

Q: drop your Credit card/money on the counter instead of handing it to the cashier.

A: No, I know what a pain it is to pick that thin piece of plastic off the counter.

Q: Talk on your cell when dealing with a cashier.

A: No, it's rude and thats what voice mail is for.

Q: Ask a store employee a question without first greeting him/her or saying excuse me.

A: No, They are busy working and it's proper to excuse the interruption .

And like Roland, I show everyone the same respect, they're working hard (well most) and deserve it.

i really don't use a cell phone much -i almost never have it with me, and when i do, i almost never answer it - with extremely rare exception, and it always involves a hospital, nothing is that important that it can't wait until i get back to a land line - i find cell phones to be the rudest things society has allowed since it allowed kids to sue their parents - a complete breakdown in discipline in both cases

no on all 3 and on a lot more of similar mannerisms. in fact, most people that know me would say I go overboard being as courteous, as considerate, and as respectful to everyone else, as I feel I am.. combination of upbringing values at home, and many many years of martial arts where surprisingly, beating the crap out of others is not the sole purpose of the discipline's philosophy , it also instills in you respect and consideration toward others in every situation - " do unto others " !

LOL

Makes me shake my head. I was in line today when a cashier gives the guy his total for his purchase. He flips open his wallet and tosses the CC on the counter. The ladies hand was extended! She gave a brief look down at the card then back a the man before picking it up. This was a well dressed "professional"( and I use that term lightly) business man. The cashier, a much bigger person in my book, remained courteous and went on the say "have a nice day" at the end of the transaction to which this guy simply ignored. I wanted to speak up but bit my tongue. Didn't want to come off as sticking my nose in someone else's business.

The cell and rude interruptions to ask a question, I also witness on a daily basis. So I threw them in there as well. Nice to see I'm not alone in this. Meaning it bothers others as well. just had to get it off my chest.

Still wish i spoke up though.

Really good points. I don't think talking to the rude will change their behavior.

I have mentioned to a cashier how well she behave....

on the " while at the cashier " note ... I observed so many people take the liberty of leisurely holding up the line, chatting with the cashier about everything from their kid's weekend soccer match details to politics, to yada, yada, yada.. WHILE two or three or more people are just waiting there

behind this nonsense wondering what friggin' planet this person has been transplanted from to be so oblivious to anything around them. The cashier is too polite or customer-centric to mention anything to them so it's pretty much up to one of us to kindly put an end to the unwarranted delay by gently pushing the cart ( but enough to put a dent in ) the back of the idiot's heels.. " - Ooops, sir/ma'am, I'm sorry.. did I do that ?! My bad, I thought you had finished talking and could swear I saw you leaving..
