Does removing the airbag control unit trigger the light?
#21

It is a coincidence that both the RL solution, and the one Cosimo and Ivan found at IMA, involve jumpering pins 3 and 4, but in different connectors. I wonder if there would be any harm in jumpering both.

The method which involves jumpering pins 3 and 4, I believe, needs this part: "the jumper plug #928.612.220.00. "

NOTE: I bought this part NEW. The bag has 928.612.220.00, but the item has # 964.612.220.00 on the adapter case.

According to Cupcar's post on RL, 928.612.220.00 is the plug part number to disable BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER air bags. His post was in 964 Forum though.

=======

928.612.220.00 part is listed in 968's parts guide.

For my 1992 968, which currently has a CS non-airbag steering wheel , the air bag light is still lit. The driver air bag module has a resister properly installed. My mechanic could not clear the code/light using computer.

My 968 has these fault codes:

The procedure which involves Jumpering pins 3 and 4 will be done in a few days. I will keep my fingers crossed.

I just came back from my mechanic. It worked.

The AIRBAG light is OFF after the 928.612.220.00 bridge adapter part is attached to connector, which is located around the passenger side (LHD) footwell area.

A computer scan for fault codes was performed ,and it recognized only the DME and Alarm System. As my 968 is a 6-speed, the computer could not find Tiptronic and AirBag.

So, by connecting the bridge adapter to our 968, it effectively renders the air bag system (both driver airbag and passenger airbag) obsolete. The exclamation mark (!) is gone.

Glad it worked for you. I had the same experience.

Quote:9ines,

I think I found the connector you're referring to:

Man, is that thing ever stuffed up in there! It would have been a beast to get to with the seat still in the car!

Anyway, assuming this is the correct connector, how exactly do I go about jumping across pin 3 and 4? There are six wires going into the connector on one side, and four on the other, but pins 3 and 4 have wires going into them on both sides. Do you know which side of the connector I need to jumper pins 3 and 4 on, or does it matter? And I assume I have to disconnect the wires going into the pins first, right? What should I do with the wires after I disconnect them?

Flash,

Just so we're clear, we're talking about the air bag control unit, not the module itself. I wouldn't have removed mine, as it only weighs about a pound, but another member (Cosimo) needed one, and since I had just removed my passenger side air bag module, I had no use for the control unit, so I removed it and sold it to him. I want to make sure that removing the unit won't make the car unable to start.

There is a bridge adapter available from Porsche.

Exactly where is this connector union located. "around the passenger side foot-well area" is what it written. Is it on the firewall, above the foot-well, on the floor or the side wall??

A close up shot is great, but I see no landmarks except some carpet on the lower left hand side of the picture from 9ines.

Help would be appreciated. I am sick of seeing the red exclamation point!

Perhaps behind the the wooden plate...

I thought that too, but when I look up what is on the plate it shows the alarm module, but to air bag module.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the module may be on the firewall, near the passenger air bag. The harness may be in that area.

More looking to come...

Thanks, but I am looking for the location where the two miltipin plugs connect to each other with an orange plastic piece.

It is where I need to install the Porsche jumper, which electronically removes the air bag system.
