A problem area of the 928 is the (too often) failure of some of the system brains and expensive relays. Because the 968s are usually newer cars, they've probably not experienced the level of failure (yet?) of the older 928s. Maybe it won't happen...or maybe when the 968 becomes as old as the 928, the problems will start cropping up?
In view of this, I've purchased an extra set of brains (I know, I need them) just in case. I got them when they were a good deal on eBay. If I never need them, I can always resell them for what I have in them (probably more). I don't plan on losing money on these parts. Cruise control brains are notorious for going bad for some reason.
If I were to have a brain failure it would be at a really bad time and I could be faced with paying out the nose for another brain (Retail for the major brain is $1800?). Also, one brain that I have is chipped and the other is stock and they're pretty easy to trade out.
Then, again, I'm pretty anal about these cars. I learned long ago that Murphy's law rules.
What other parts might be advisable to latch onto and put aside for a possible rainy day? There are only so many of the cars and the prices for parts never go down it seems.
