Fitted new air filter today and wanted to take it for a test drive. I turn the key and all is normal (all lights ok and engine cranks) but it doesn't start. I make two 10 second attempts. It acts as if I had disconnected the plug wires. I pop the hood to check the wire from the coil to the cap sicne I had just messed around in that area. All is ok so I close the hood and I activate and deactivate the alarm. New try but same result - crap! Now it is dinner time so the car sits for like one hour before I get to start working on it. So, back outside I decide to give it another try before I start troubleshooting. And it starts instantly!?! I try again and again and it works perfectly. Just a temporary fluke or could it be the DME-relay going bad? Or something else? It's running now but this problem might come back at a bad time so I'd like to get it fixed.

before I replaced mine, that was one of the sypmtoms.. ( among others - it's amazing how may "scary" , different symptoms that single $ 20 unit can create.. )<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I have now made the "emergency cable" that connects the 30, 87, and 87b connectors so that I can replace/bypass the DME relay with it the next time this happens. And I'll buy a new relay - should I go for an original part (the newish one with a 993... p/n) or simply whatever new one that works?
I'd rather not simply replace the relay assuming that the relay is where the problem is. I would like to verify it first by getting this problem again and then fixing it by replacing the relay with a cable or a new relay.
