Tiptronic fluid and filter change
#1

Next weekend I'm decided to do a Tiptronic fluid and filter change. First thing I have to do it get used to working at the rear instead of up front as has been the case in my previous ATF servicings.

Looks like it should take just under 4 quarts. I had been thinking about using Mobil 1, the only synthetic I've found, or Castrol since it will be about half old fluid anyway.

Anybody have recommendations about the Filter? is this a Porsche dealer only part or will most of the major parts stores, Napa, Kragen, etc... carry the right filter and gasket?

The Cab has 81,000 and I have no idea on previous ATF changes, so I figured it was time to do it as a precaution. The fluid looks dark, but that is probably due to way the reservior sits, actual color may be much lighter once it's drained.

Comments appreciated,

I doubt Napa and such will stock the 968 parts (could order them), or check the other places; Sunset, Automotion and the like. as for the oil; I would try to keep it close to what it had, there is about (more or less) 10 quarts total in the trans.

I've read that they (synth-dino oil) can mix but you never know.Pulling the pan is always a good idea also because then you can see what’s there (there will always be SOME metal flakes but should not be allot or large), this can be a good indicator of the wear inside.

Anybody do a fluid change, drive for a bit then do another fluid change and a filter change to get more new fluid into the system?

Seems like I saw a post about doing something like that.
