Deteriorating wiring issues
#1

Given the age of our cars ( and as documented by several threads / posts )  wiring harnesses are starting to deteriorate ( or already have.. ) and should be inspected and replaced when indicated, but  consider ourselves lucky that we got this much time and use out of it ; cars  built after the 2010 era under the EU idiotic “green” regulations are forced to use bio-degradable wire coating which is staring to fall apart less than 8-10 years later , and cause a lot of electrical issues .  Think about the cost of replacing a Ferrari or Maserati or Lamborghini, or Bentley , etc.. wiring harness not covered by warranty any longer ..  -_-

Are you having trouble with wire insulation in the car or just under the hood? Good thing the under hood stuff is kind of a sub-harness.

No trouble with any wiring on my 968 …YET…  nor my Maserati , but a bunch of people on the Maserati forum are complaining about the degradation of their wires insulation due to the biodegradable materials usage EU orders..

Hmmm, so airbus/ Euro manufactured planes etc are subject to the same bio-wiring compliance? Sad

Yikes, did you have to bring that up ?!  I nervous enough as it is at 30,000 ft in the air relying on the dependence of both mechanical and computers wiring  .. now it’s just one more thing to occupy my mind while flying .

Dont matter how high or how fast, its the sudden stop at the bottom that does the damage

True ..lol.  I have no fear of flying, I have fear of crashing !

I remember back when I was much younger, a bit reckless because I felt invincible,  I used to do some short runs from time to time driving at about 150 mph, and  my friends who knew my hesitation to flying would laugh and tell me it’s a lot safer to fly than to drive ( statistically ) especially at those speeds  and my response was always : no it’s not , if my car’s engine suddenly stops running I’ll just coast to the road’s shoulder and park , I won’t plunge to my death in a 30,000 ft tail spin spiral ..

Eh, statistics are crap anyway, it depends how you interpret them .. perfect example :   30% of automobile accident fatalities are caused by drunk divers .   To me that simply translates to 70% of accident fatalities are caused by sober drivers .   Seems we’d be a hell of a lot safer on the roads if everyone drove drunk !!

Yep, those same stats tell you that most accidents are caused by sober people driving under the speed limit within a mile of home..... so the safest thing to do is enjoy a few stiff drinks at home, then get the hell away from there as fast as possible! Big Grin

I wish you all a great New Year's Eve and hope that 2022 will be kinder to us all than was 2021 ..... Cheers/santé/salute
