Earlier today I went out and tried to drop the top on my 968 cab. Unlocked the top pressed the top down button. The windows rolled down but the top motors did nothing. Pressed the top up side of the button and I could hear the motors running. Lifted the top a little, checked the fuse ect...... but still nothing. I did a search and found a thread where they were talking about 2 additional relays located in the rear boot. Pulled the carpet and had a look but was not able to find any additional relays. Can anybody tell me where these are at or if they exist?



I know that many of you have gone to the manual mode but I have not interest in that.



Any other ideas or thoughts would be welcome.

I believe those relays are underneath the flat parcel shelf panel inside the car.

Ok, more to the story. I removed the cover panel on the passangers side and loosened the position switch. The motor now run when I push the top down buttom but will not engage.



Any thoughts?

It may be smart enough to shut itself off if something is binding or something. The last thing you want is for one of those bows to break. Take a look thru the top manual, if you don't have it, it's over here. http://www.968forums.com/topic/360-cabri...uppliment/

If the top motors are running but the top is not moving the big center nuts must be loose or the torque limiter is slipping. Careful, if the motors are out of synch the top frame can get damaged.



At least I think there is a torque limiter in each motor. I know there are 'open' and 'closed' limit switches that tell the system if the top motors can run or not. These switches have a rough life and can fail.



When I had a top that would not close but the windows would roll down a bit, it was one of these limit switches.



You may have a combination of a bad limit switch and an out-of-adjustment top system. I suggest readjusting everything as per the manual. You can poke the limit switches from above and sometimes get a sticky or corroded one to operate once or twice.



These switches can be replaced with common parts but you might have to swap over the lever arm with the little roller if you cannot find the exact replacement switch from Mouser or Newark or someplace like that.



My process if I hear any funny noise from the top or hear a motor operating without the top moving:

1 - Stop.

2 - Go manual (loosen the top-to-motor bolts)

3 - Eventually, maybe, fix whatever is wrong and then readjust.



I have never actually gotten to step 3 even though I prefer the power to the manual 'option.'
