Design 1 splitter installed
#1

The splitter was installed yesterday. Had it painted gloss black. The install was pretty straight forward. The drilled holes matched up so no redrilling necessary. I did not use the Loctite as specified in the instructions as it would be hard to remove itf you had to work or access the underside of the engine. Keeping my "batwing (front apron)" just in case. Attached some pics.

Looks great. Question gents. What do you think about a black splitter on a white car?

I choose the black after consulting with the troops at IMA. Most tof the splitters on Porsches are black especially the race cars. I think black on a white car would look cool.

don't second guess the designer.

PUT LOCTITE 242 ON THE THREADS AS THE INSTRUCTIONS INDICATED!!!

if you don't use 242, the screws will back out. it is needed because of the low torque spec

if you don't use loctite 242 and over tighten the screws beyond the spec instead, the bumper cover will permanently deform

look up 242 if you have any questions

No problem, it just seemed that using loctite the splitter could not be removed and that would be a problem if you had to service the bottom of the engine. I looked up Loctite 242 and it says that it can be removed with "tools". I will rectify the install. Thanks for the clarification.

no worries - yes, it would be a problem if you used one of the permanent types of loctite. i chose the removable loctite for just that reason. it's job is to act as a vibration dampener on the threads and prevent the screws from backing out. the screws are only supposed to be tight enough to snug up the splitter, but not so tight that they deform the bumper cover. that's why the 242 is needed.

another installed (with loctite) - easy to install; spent more time modifying the bra to fit with the splitter

Looking good, Brian. Did you paint yours gloss black or is that a satin? I'm thinking a matte-ish black that resembles the bare black plastic look of the stock batwing (front apron) might look good, and possibly weather rock hits better.

Yeah, I like Bob's suggestion, do the splitter in stripes. Black and Yellow like caution tape!

Too funny Bob. I am torn as to leaving the splitter black or colour matching it with the car. Maybe a couple of different angles from Brian to make up my mind? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> I'm leaning toward Midnight Blue. I may try it black for this season and then decide as the summer opinions mount.

lol - yeah - i crack myself up

while i still think it should be body color, black is probably not bad on any dark colored car, but light ones i think should definitely go body color unless there are other black items to make it look intentional

Mine, when it comes back from the paint shop will be the same color as the car, midnight blue. Now if the rear spoiler were black rather than midnight blue, I would probably opted for black. Appeals to my sense of balance.

that's what i'm talking about. same would go for the "B" pillars. if they are black instead of body color, then you could follow that theme
